4.0 out of 5 stars Alias Smith and Jones - Complete Series
While we have not watched all 10 DVDs, the ones we have watched have been pleasant viewing. The quality is very acceptable, given this was a TV series, not a movie.

The plots vary from engaging to those which jump the shark. But hey, it's all good. Beats the garbage on TV today, and it's family safe.

3.0 out of 5 stars video quality awful
I'm a little surprised to see other people have rated the video quality on the complete series to be good. I've watched the first 5 episodes and find the video quality to be horrible. Most DVDs I watch on my upconverting blu-ray player look pretty good, or at least acceptable. These episodes look grainy. It looks like they are doing a weird frame rate. When people talk,...

5.0 out of 5 stars Very happy to find, April 9, 2011

This was one of my absolute favorite television series growing up. Loved the actors, especially Pete Duel (died much too young). Some very good plots and twists, so there was even good story line going for it. Alot of nice western vistas, and well done western settings. Did recognize alot of the scenes and sets from also being on the Kung Fu series which was on at roughly the same time. Pete Duel's smile was enough to keep me watching the first time I saw these, now I could also enjoy everything else the show had going for it. Also, the quality of the dvd's was much better than the reruns I saw on cable.

3.0 out of 5 stars video quality awful, February 14, 2011

I'm a little surprised to see other people have rated the video quality on the complete series to be good. I've watched the first 5 episodes and find the video quality to be horrible. Most DVDs I watch on my upconverting blu-ray player look pretty good, or at least acceptable. These episodes look grainy. It looks like they are doing a weird frame rate. When people talk, there lips appear to be blurring. Almost like a ghosting effect. I noticed the same thing on a dark train sequence where the wood appeared to be blurring (Episode 5, The girl in Boxcar #3). I've never had an issue with anything else, so I completely believe its the DVD mastering. I notice the mps is low compared to other full frame DVDs of series I own. That said, this is a great series which I used to watch years ago and always enjoyed. 5 stars for great show, 1 star for the video quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars ALIAS BEST WESTERN--S...They should have made MORE of this series (and still could) with Ben Murphy and Roger Davies., January 16, 2011

We need more westerns--how about making available The Young Riders (circa 1989) with Teaspoon and the boys...Takes yer back to the history of the west. Why are we living in such a violent age --is it anything to do with all these macho hereos who polish off 25 people, instead of Westerns where you get a more accurate picture?

It was sad when the main character was lost to suicide but the early shows we really enjoyed.
Good clean easy fun but I'm afraid much of our society will feel it is too slow.

This was an excellent show given the length of time since i last saw it. I enjoyed it just as much this time round.
I was just as saddened this time round with the lose of Pete Duel. If the viewer looks at the show as it was presented in yester year instead of comparing it with todays productions they will enjoy it too.

This is a GREAT show. I started watching it on the Retro television station and decided I wanted to own all the shows since I may have missed a few off tv and would like to see them all again anyway. These 2 actors were a great pair and I wish there could have been even more shows made. Pete Duel is no longer with us and that is SO unfortunate. Such a cool guy and a killer smile.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Up To Par, October 19, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Alias Smith and Jones - The Complete Series! 50 episodes on 10 DVDs! (DVD)
While the episodes are enjoyable, the DVDs are NOT up to par. There is a purple stripe down the screen of almost every episode, some double imaging, ghostly blue light across scenes and audio glitches. Amazon's policy is no return on opened DVDs. While I can understand this, it makes it impossible to return damaged or poor quality DVDs. The cost of returning DVDs to manufacturer cost me another $12.95+ in shipping, so Amazon's price is not really that good. I won't be buying anymore DVDs from Amazon as they are nonreturnable and may not be up to par!
