Off all the Alice 2.0 texts - this is, in my opinon, the best. It goes directly to Java when the (many) Alice flaws start to cause problems.

This book is very well written and contains detailed, step by step, visual instructions which are easy for introductory students to follow. I used this book as a supplement in my introductory programming class. The students were able to follow and surpass the requirements for the class.

My College taught Alice as a primary class teaching the fundamentals of pseudo code and concepts. This is the first semester we don't use the program but we grasp the concepts from the book. Such as Array's, IF Statements and so on. The program doesn't teach you much about coding for it does it automatically for you. Although the information inside the book is quite useful. I must say from experience of using Alice as recreation and actually being taught the fundamentals of designing a process. I'm glad this isn't my coach instead more of a reference. It's a good book and should be read, just doing the step by step in Alice is unneeded.
