Utterly superfluous album tie in,
By Paul Lawrence "'EJL'" (Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Alice Cooper - Video Trash [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The Trash album has put Alice Cooper back on the map after most of a decade of utter irrelevance. And to squeeze the maximum cash from the record buying public a brief home video of the clips of three of the singles from the album was deemed necessary. Not that this was a bad thing and certainly not to suggest that Alice was alone in such a move. DAD and Whitesnake did the same thing. The Gunners did a while series of videos on making videos. But that's a story for another time.In terms of the product at hand, this is a very bare bones release of the clips for the flagship single and pop metal classic Poison, the almost as good though more brainless Bed of Nails and finally the third rockin' single from the album, House of Fire. Which is very much the underachieving third wheel of the collection. The videos have aged of course though Poison still looks OK, Bed of Nails looks a touch twee nowadays after a deluge of angry young growlers have passed us by in the 90's and 00's while House of Fire is just there, not particularly worthy of mention. If any of these tapes still exist in working order they would probably be a really cool pick up for any Alice Cooper collector as it's unlikely this particular release will ever be given a stand alone DVD reissue. And for the quality of two of the songs and for it's value perhaps as a collectors curio this very brief video scores a comfortable three stars. But the casual fan could probably nowadays just download the clips from the internet somewhere and be done with it. And just before I go, speaking of aging and sound twee - here is the blurb on the back of the cover from AC himself "Everybody relates to trash. Kids get trashed by the cops, trashed in school, trashed at home. We live in a highly pressured time. It's a dangerous world and trash is what it's all about." |
