Book Description

5 and upK and up
Frog’s guts and lizard’s eyes,
to every color I say good-bye!

Greta’s at it again.

This time, she casts a spell she knows Alice will hate—one that makes all color in the world disappear! Now Alice may be nice, but a witch has to do what a witch has to do. So Alice casts a spell of her own to teach Greta a lesson. Soon the spells start flying, and before they know it, Alice and Greta have made a color magic mess—every color in the world gets mixed up!

Can Alice and Greta work together to fix this color confusion?

Steve Simmons and Cyd Moore make magic again with another Alice and Greta adventure—a delightful story with an important message about the beauty and importance of differences.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Alice and Greta are two witches with very different world views. Alice's sweetness is like a splinter under rabble-rouser Greta's skin. Never content to live and let live, and stubbornly forgetful of her previous comeuppances (as seen in Alice and Greta and Greta's Revenge), Greta decides to stir up a batch of trouble. In a truly diabolical stroke of genius, she remembers that Alice loves colorful things: her turquoise and pink pet butterfly, red apples, the blue sky, orange balloons... Greta waves her wand and casts a spell to remove the colors from the world--all except the yucky green that she herself favors. Of course, Greta has forgotten that even nice witches know how to get revenge, and soon the tables are turned. But then both witches go too far, and discover the risks of invoking an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. For once, though, naughty Greta seems to show honest remorse for her part in the calamity. Has she really turned over a new leaf?

Steven J. Simmons and Cyd Moore team up again to produce another entertaining tale about these worlds-apart witches. Moore's swirly watercolors help bring home Simmons's point about the value of diversity. Young readers will get the message, but mostly they'll just enjoy the mostly predictable yet pleasing plot. (Ages 5 to 8) --Emilie Coulter

For many years I read the Alice and Greta books to K through grade 3 children. Always they loved the stories and now my two grandgirls, ages nearly 6 and just turned 4 love them. These two little witches in the stories are very likeable and the children relate to the problem behavior of the one little witch...jealousy and mean spiritedness are found in all of us from time to time. We all have a mean bean in our heart that gets us into trouble every now and then. These are great stories for a child to own and for someone to read to them or with them!! Betty Collins, retired elem. librarian and Mema of three grandchildren and friend to many, many more!
