5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly Enjoyable
It's rare to find an album that offers one enjoyable song after another. Usually you buy a cd for one song, maybe two, and end up listening to it less and less as time goes by. Alice Peacock, however, knew what she was doing when she assembled her self-titled album. When I listen to it, I listen to every song.

3.0 out of 5 stars Spreading Her Feathers
Mildly rocking, Alice proves herself to be one-part Sheryl, one-part Jewel, and one-part Joni; sometimes rising to their levels, sometime seeming a bit redundant.

I found several of the songs on this CD to be sort of popish and repetitive. At worst, some sounded too similar to others. At best, they were unchallenging and simple; feeling like filler between...

It's rare to find an album that offers one enjoyable song after another. Usually you buy a cd for one song, maybe two, and end up listening to it less and less as time goes by. Alice Peacock, however, knew what she was doing when she assembled her self-titled album. When I listen to it, I listen to every song.

The great thing about Peacock's music is that there is something in each song that will speak to you. It's in the lyrics, yes, but it's also in the way she puts it across. There is nothing flashy about her voice, but it is honest and sweet. As lame as this might sound, listening to one of her songs is like listening to a friend who is relating a problem, a joy, a story.

Admittedly, it took me some time to come to appreciate this album. I heard it a couple of times and thought it was good, but then something shifted in my life and I came to love it. It marks a time, a place and a person for me. It's like a memory now. When I listen to it I'll remember. What a wonderful quality for an album to have.

I'm not a fan of Sheryl Crow. There are few female solo singers that do much of anything for me. I like singers that have character, something that sets them apart from everything else that is out there (Norah Jones is a good example), and Alice Peacock definitely fits the bill.

5.0 out of 5 stars A treasure from an up and coming superstar, May 11, 2003

Millions want to be superstars, only a select few have that one thing that seperates the successes from the casualties: desire. Alice Peacock has no shortage of desire, or talent. Some say she is destined to be the next Sheryl Crow, I never appreciated comparisons like those, because in some cases they serve to typecast a person or put a cap on their potential. Alice Peacock has fought to not be the next Sheryl Crow, but to be the first Alice Peacock, and her debut CD is a great introduction to this future star.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great blend of pop, country and rock., September 7, 2002

This is a record with uniform strengths. Alice Peacock's singing is subtle yet soulful; her songwriting is catchy but brainy, with great lyrical turns; and the arrangements are appealing -- at times harkening back to Globe Sessions-era Sheryl Crow.

Lead track "Alabama Boy" grabbed me right away on the basis of a very confident lead vocal; "Bliss" is not the keyboard-heavy ballad you might expect from the title -- rather, an aggressive, whiny electric guitar and techno-ed up drumbeats lend this song a highly unusual and delicious vibe. "Imagination", co-written with Indigo Girl Emily Saliers, progressive from a moody, bass-heavy verse to a soaring, beautifully harmonized chorus; and "Some Things Get Lost" takes things into a more conventional route, a smoky, old-time piano ballad that works fine thanks to Peacock's singing. She is very good at delivering even the most sugary melodies while keeping her voice earthy, strong and textured.

A wonderful record.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alice Peacock, August 14, 2006

Whether this is her REAL name or not-you have to admit after listening to this CD that her music is ALL REAL!! Alice's strong yet lilting voice seems to surround you with a feeling of comfort and familiarity that you will not find with other performers. It's like having one of your buddies performing in your living room! She is an extraordinary talent, who manages to tell a story, somewhat the way Joni Mitchell did on her earlier albums. Alice shares bits and pieces of her life with you, and manages to do so with a soft, flowing, sweet voice that captures joy, reminisences, and heartache. This is a beautiful collection.

I was given this cd by a friend who thought I would like it. Was he right! Alice Peacock has become one of my absolute favorite artists. Alice's voice is warm and draws you into her music. I can't choose a favorite song because I like them all too much.

This cd showcases her talent not only as a singer, but also as a songwriter and musician. The songs are not only all written by Alice but she also plays the guitar or piano on all of them.

I recently had the chance to see Alice in concert. She was amazing. One of the best concerts I have ever attended. I can't wait to see her again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Alice comes into the light, September 12, 2002

I've often been asked what kind of music I listen to when my passion for (or against) some particular piece comes to the surface during a conversation. My stand-pat reply has always been-good music.

Alice Peacock on her latest self-titled CD has nothing but good music to offer.

I will not break this down into a song-by-song description with comparisons to other artists in the present, or even over the past thirty years of the western music scene. Alice seems to hit all the good points that the folk; country; jazz; blues; ballad; rock; r&b; etc; etc, have come up with while I was growing up... listening.

Maybe Alice is Pop... Folk/Pop...Pop/Rock...Polk/Fop/Crock... who cares really...

What still strikes me above all else is simply her voice. This woman's smoky voice is at once sultry and innocent, joyous and pleading, a warm soft friendly feeling for your ears and soul to take in.

This of course still leaves her wondrous ability to tell the story of her life and those around her in song. Alice is a true balladeer with a no-holds-barred attitude, who speaks from her heart; her words should run straight to yours.

Then as if this isn't enough, Alice has for her new release, gathered around her a group of exceptional musicians. These people allow Alice and her breathtaking voice to shine through, yet at the same time there's this incredible band in the background rocking its way through with grace and style.

This is one of those albums that will remain in my memory as one of the greats. Thank you to Alice Peacock and all those who have helped bring this star to earth to enhance our lives.

Someone please tell me why this woman has not won a Grammy? I had never heard of Alice Peacock when I saw this album at HVM. But that little voice in my head told me "Your going to love it." And sure enough this CD has not left my cd player in like two years. I love it, love it, love it!!!

Can't wait for the new release in June!

for someone so young. I heard one of the cuts on a local, PA, public radio station and had to have it. She's among my regular listening list in the car to and from work. Sometimes she makes me cry. Her subjects and lyrics are very human. I look forward to future CDs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth Keeping, April 8, 2003

In the age where corporate masses push ... music shamelessly for impulse buying, those CD's usually end up collecting dust or as an expensive coaster. (ala Britney Spears)
Alice stands out and gives hope that there are REAL musicians out there. I actually ENJOY listening to her music and lyrics.
Her words are like a gospel conversation with good melodies.
I had the pleasure of meeting her once (she seems as nice as her music) when she was an independent artist promoting her Real Day CD at a Borders in Chicago. I was busy studying until her music caught my attention which is rare and also considering it was really never my genre. Good job and congrats on her success.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alice Peacock is a gem, February 24, 2003
This review is from: Alice Peacock (Audio CD)
Alice Peacock's self-titled album stands out among the currently hot singer/songwriter explosion (a backlash from the whole Britney/Christina/hottie-of-the-moment pop phenomenon?). This cd is chock full of honest, heartfelt pop songs with a slightly country-folk flavor. Alice's voice is sweet, slightly raspy, and sort of makes you think of Faith Hill. High points are "Boy in the Backseat," "Bliss" (Great duet with John Mayer,) "I Hear You Say," and "I'll Be the One." Some very good songwriting all-around here.
