5.0 out of 5 stars KISS MY GRITS Warner Bros for taking so long to release Alice on dvd!!!, August 4, 2005
This review is from: Alice: Season 1 (DVD)
I just can't believe this great sitcom of the 7o's has "not" been released on dvd yet!!! Is there no justice in the world when it comes to releasing all the classic sitcoms that have not seen the light of day on dvd??? I just don't understand it, but I suppose Warner Bros. has it's plate full considering the massive library of tv shows they own and hopefully the powers at be will finally get around to releasing Alice on dvd before I hit menopause!!!
When the former cable network TNN used to broadcast Alice I did'nt hesitate to tape practically every episode, mainly the Flo years. The entire cast was great, but Florence Jean Casstleberry was my favorite character!!!! From her beahive hairdo, ferocious appetite for men, and repeated quotes of "KISS MY GRITS" she stole the show!!! I suppose it's the reason she left to star in her own series called FLO, but it just did'nt work without the magic of her former co-stars.
Anyways it would be great to revisit this great show on dvd, because I would have the luxury of watching certain episodes over and over again, like my all time favorite episode when Alice, Flo, Vera, and Mel were forced to quit their bad habits. This episode was hilarious from start to finish (the great writers of sitcoms are a dying breed!!!)and the laughs were endless! Ah, a time when sitcoms made you laugh out loud!!!
At this point I'll continue checking tvshowondvd.com and hopefully hit paydirt to see a release date for Alice on dvd!!!
Meanwhile, I wish it was alot easier to locate this listing of Alice here at Amazon, because I had to pull up Linda Lavin instead of just Alice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Waiting patiently for Alice -whole series to be put out on dvd., October 13, 2006

I absolutely love the tv series Alice. It was one of the funniest comedies of the 70's and early 80's.I had a lot of them taped on VHS years ago but the quality has deteriated.I did buy the tv favorites with the 6 episodes. This is only a teaser because there are tons of episodes I remember and really miss.It seems everything else is or has been released to dvd.If there is a petition out there to sign to get them released I would sign, and I know lots of people who are fans of Alice that would as well.
I believe most of the actors are still alive and it would be nice to get them all together for a reunion like other 70's shows have done. And they could add it as a special feature. This is a rare show that I could watch over and over and never get sick of.
If for some reason the powers that be(people responsible for getting this series out on dvd) are reading this,I hope you'll consider releasing this awesome television series.I am sure there are enough fans out there that would buy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars "TV Favorites" Collection for "Alice" Coming in 2006, November 28, 2005
This review is from: Alice: Season 1 (DVD)
If you go to the "Alice" message board at Sitcoms Online, you should be pleased to see that Warner Bros. is planning a "TV Favorites" DVD containing episodes of "Alice" that were hand-picked by the fans. I am encouraging all "Alice" fans to please purchase this DVD because if it sells well then Warner Bros. will be sure to release season sets.

Although I was only a little kid at the time, the 1970's produced some of the best sitcoms in the history of television - like "All in the Family", "The Mary Tyler Moore Show", "Sanford & Son", "Maude", "One Day at a Time", "Good Times", "The Jeffersons" and many others - all of which have at least one season or more released on DVD, leaving one glaring omission - "Alice"!

Although they put out a 6 episode "Best of Television Favorites" DVD a few years ago, I still can't believe Warner Brothers hasn't released even one full season of this wonderful show on DVD yet. Based on the Oscar-winning movie, "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore", "Alice" ran for 9 seasons on CBS and was a big hit - especially during the first 4 seasons, which featured Polly Holliday as the scene-stealing Florence Jean Castleberry. Her "Kiss My Grits" line was one of the biggest catch phrases of the 70's making this show a pop culture favorite.

The chemistry between Linda Lavin as "Alice", Polly Holliday ("Flo"), Beth Howland ("Vera") and the late Vic Tayback ("Mel") was legendary and it's about time that Warner Brothers realized how many fans of this show want to see the release of the 1st season of "Alice" on DVD!

5.0 out of 5 stars W E W A N T A L I C E! W E W A N T A L I C E!, February 22, 2007

As good as this series was there has to be no choice but to release the series on DVD. New generations would be exposed to these wonderful, witty, original characters. Even the story lines to some of the episodes would still fit in today's world. It would be great as each season is released to have commentary and interviews with the cast and crew of this series. I haven't seen most of these actors in some time. Polly Holliday had a cameo in Mrs. Doubtfire which I thought was great, but haven't seen the much of her. I'm also a huge fan of Roseanne and at some point one of the discs is always playing. I just love the characters and the jokes and all. It would be great to relive episodes I've long forgotten on Alice which is why they need to be released on DVD. There is only three more seasons left that will be released on Roseanne so then Alice needs to be released so I can start buying those right after!!! There are 'unofficial' releases out there on the internet but I want the official release!
