Editorial Reviews

Review

These books are wonderful! They are very sturdy and the pages are thick and easy for little chubby hands to turn. The illustrations are done by Alison Oliver and she did a great job. The colors are beautiful as well as the pictures. (Sherrie Plummer sherriesbooks.blogspot.com 2012-03-16)

If you like your Alice in Wonderland editions bright, light on words, and difficult to destroy when thrown around the nursery, then check out Jennifer Adams' new board book...The art by Alison Oliver is very bubbly and stylish, each page illustrating text such as "orange cat," "blue caterpillar," or "red hearts." (Jennifer Adams Lewis Carroll Society of North America 2012-03-14)

"Alice in Wonderland: A Colors Primer" by Jennifer Adams and illustrated by Alison Oliver

This is one of the greatest board book series out there. Designed to introduce the literary classics to the youngest readers, these books are delightfully fabulous. The two most recent, "Alice in Wonderland" and "Jane Eyre," are marvelous, but also check out the first two, "Romeo and Juliet" and "Pride and Prejudice." They are written by Utah's Jennifer Adams and beautifully illustrated by the talented Alison Oliver.

(Teri Harman KSL 2012-07-12)

The "Alice in Wonderland" color primer provides a refreshing deviation from Adams' other BabyLit primers, all of which focus on counting. The many peculiar characters in Carroll's novel, such as the red Queen of Hearts and the time-conscious white rabbit, lend themselves to a natural introduction to colors. The literary ties are creative, but the illustrations take these primers to the next level and make them shine. Alison Oliver's illustration style is distinct with its bright colors and array of patterns that are sure to capture the attention and imagination of children. Even if parents are not well-versed in the literature, the images alone make these primers a worthwhile purchase. (Whitney Butters Deseret News 2012-03-03)

This book is beautiful and simple...The pages seem to come to life with the art and details of it. The pictures come to life on the pages and I know that any young child would be stimulated by all the multiple colors and pictures that are within these pages. I loved it!! (Laura Moore The Reading Nook 2012-04-02)

These are adorable books and ones that will be sure to interest your child with their bright colors, fun illustrations and simple words! Think about putting them in the next basket you make up for a baby shower! (Bless Their Hearts Mom 2012-03-27)

The little board books are just the cutest books I think I have ever seen...The simplicity of these books is its genius. (Kid Lit Reviews 2012-04-02)

This book is a excellent read and my daughter loved it. The pages are really colorful and full of adventure, she couldn't put the book down. (Stephaine Szostak cybertronianreviews.blogspot.com 2012-03-16)

These are the sweetest board books I have ever laid eyes on! Looking at these book-covers via online does not do them any justice at all! The coloring is gorgeous - vibrant and eye catching! The quality of these books just blows my mind - they are so sturdy, and definitely kid friendly. But what I adore the most - the theme to these books! I am a huge Alice in Wonderland fan - all of the main characters make their appearance in this book, each taking a turn teaching your bundle of joy different colors through Alice in Wonderland inspired illustrations. And these pictures are all so cute and captivating! (Margie Cortina Bumbles and Fairy Tales 2012-03-20)

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, colorful, entrancing! July 7, 2012
Format:Board book
Children love many things, but nothing catches their attention better than something colorful they could play with. And I don't think I need to tell you about the many benefits of play. Every mom out there knows that play increases child's creativity and productivity, makes them happy, and - most importantly - enhances their personal learning and development. And what's a better thing for your child to play with than a beautifully illustrated, colorful book? And not just any book, but a board book designed to help your child learn many valuable things, from counting and identifying colors to essential values and concepts.

When I was contacted by the publisher to review some of the Baby Lit books on my blog, I immediately jumped at the opportunity! How could I not? This series is not only absolutely beautiful, visually appealing and fashionable, it's also inspired by the timeless literature classics - and what's more amazing than a book that stimulates your child's imagination and intellectual development, while being absolutely entrancing for you (as a parent AND reader), as well?

Baby Lit series consists of many great books. There's Little Miss Austen and her Pride And Prejudice. Then there's Little Master Stoker and his Dracula. There's also Little Master Shakespear and his Romeo & Juliette, and Little Master Dickens and his Christmas Carrol. I was fortunate enough to be able to take a closer look at Little Miss Bronte and her Jane Eyre, as well as Little Master Carroll and his Alice In Wonderland.

Alice In Wonderland is absolutely mesmerizing. Designed to introduce your child to the world of colors, this book is bursting with vibrance and vivid, eye-catching illustrations.

3.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book, but not for teaching color May 21, 2013
Format:Board book
I adore this entire series, but this is the only one that I would have to say is not a worthwhile learning tool. The color is too subtle to teach a child who is at an age to be using board books.
But, that said, the illustrations are wonderful. I just wish they had been more bold with the relevant colors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern take on a classic! May 17, 2012
Format:Board book
I love the modern graphic style of Alice in Wonderland. It is a board book for kids that uses the characters and themes from the Carroll classic to teach about colors. From the orange (Chesire) cat to the (Queen of) red hearts, Alice in Wonderland is filled with vivid images that allude to key scenes from the book. It is delightful to see the wacky characters from Wonderland in this new light. Well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars great baby gift idea May 2, 2012
Format:Board book
These BabyLit books are adorable! I have Little Master Carroll and Little Miss Brontë in front of me, but there are several more available in Jennifer Adams's new series for budding bibliophiles.

The Alice in Wonderland adaptation is a "colors primer"; the Jane Eyre a "counting primer." Both incorporate imaginative, beautiful, captivating images by Alison Oliver inspired by the classics they emulate. They are not summaries of the plots by any means, giving only the merest nods to the originals. But they are baby picture books, after all, not graphic novels.

I don't have a baby or a toddler to read them with, and can't speculate as to what holds a two-year old's attention, book-wise. The boards seem plenty sturdy for little teeth and slick enough not to absorb drool, which seems like a good endorsement for a baby book.

For me, the point of these is that they are super cute for adults trying to indoctrinate tiny readers early into a book culture -- either those adults actually reading to the little tykes or, like me, those looking for something fresh and clever to give as gifts to the newborns we come across.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific book for toddlers April 25, 2012
Format:Board book
This review is also for the Alice in Wonderland: A Colors Primer (Baby Lit) primer.

Looking at these board books, I thought they were a great package. The illustrations by Alison Oliver are irresistibly cute and the color palettes are terrific. I liked that LITTLE MISS BRONTE: JANE EYRE had quotations from the text sprinkled throughout. The illustrations for LITTLE MASTER CARROLL: ALICE IN WONDERLAND incorporated more details from the novel, but I missed the quotes.

My mom's reaction upon seeing the books: "Oh, those are two cute! They're great for lit types."

My sister's: "I'm going to need to read JANE EYRE."

My nephew ignored ALICE IN WONDERLAND: A COUNTING PRIMER at first. He preferred to carry JANE EYRE: A COUNTING PRIMER around, likely due to the moody blue cover. (He loves blue things.) Later, my four-year-old niece wanted me to read JANE EYRE to her. She enjoyed counting the objects as I read. Then she wanted me to read it to her again. Then she wanted to read it to me again. She struggled with some of the terms, so I got to explain to her what a 'governess' is.

That night she wanted me to read ALICE IN WONDERLAND for her bedtime story. Then she decided that she wanted to read it to me! Now, my niece is not literate. She can recognize letters but can't read words yet. But from the context of the illustrations, she was able to figure out the words on each page with almost no help from me. (We had a small debate over whether the caterpillar was blue or green.) Tonight, my nephew played around with JANE EYRE more and my niece wanted me to read it to her again. I think they enjoy the books!
