Alice Yazzie's Year, February 9, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Alice Yazzie's Year (Hardcover)
I was amazed by this book. The format looks like a children's book, but the subject matter and vocabulary is for an older child, I would say 10-12 yrs. There was a depth to this book that I certainly did not expect. I live in Navajo country and know many Navajo children. This book is an excellent introduction to the life of a modern day Navajo girl. I am glad a reprint is now available!

Both writing & illustrations are fabulous, January 18, 2011
This review is from: Alice Yazzie's Year (Hardcover)
I purchased this book primarily for Shonto Begay's invigorating illustrations but was equally impressed with the story. Personally, I think this book is for ALL age levels as a wonderful introduction to Navajo culture and for the pleasure of the illustrations. Younger children should love to have this book read to them and adults should be moved by the spirituality evoked.
