5.0 out of 5 stars Alice, Steampunk, and Cakes.... June 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Alice, Steampunk, and Cakes... What more can you ask for?
Nothing that's what. Well sex too. Like any insane person I like an Alice story, but more than that, I like one that really gets you going. As soon as you start reading you are glued to the story and it's characters and you don't want to put it down at all. You will regret it if you put it down. You will be up tossing and turning all night because you didn't finish the next page, the next chapter. Buy it, read it, you won't regret it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun but not quite steampunk August 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was definitely a good read but it wasn't quite what I'd call steam punk, more fantasy based on steam punk. A really entertaining modern story using many equivilant characters from Alice, though that's where the comparison stops.

The only thing stopping me giving this a 5 was the ending, it just seemed a bit rushed and happily ever after, almost a little jarring. Despite that I definitely recommend giving this a read though, it's a lot of fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars Grown Up Alice Can't Lay Off the Acid March 16, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This book was a bit of a slow burn for me. The first twenty or thirty pages really didn't grab me, yet I found I wasn't able to completely abandon the book. I'd set it down, do other things, and eventually come back to it after a couple days.

About a quarter of the way through it, something changed, and I found myself devouring the rest of the work in a rush.

As you can probably guess from the title, there are plenty of elements of Alice In Wonderland in this book. However, instead of being a precocious young girl, Alice (or "Alice Sin" which is her full name) is a resourceful prostitute. Suffice it to say that she has "interesting" methods for problem solving, although I can't help but concede that her tactics would undoubtedly be effective.

One of the characters I liked was a Clockwork robot. There's something kind of delightful about Clockwork characters. He's sophisticated and articulate, but he needs to be wound up like a watch periodically. Of course, this necessity leads to some predictable moments of stress when his skills are needed but he's unable to perform due to "lack of wind."

I think what I liked most about this book was the freedom the author was given. There are characters who talk in ALL CAPS which is exactly the type of thing that I'm never allowed to do as a writer. But personally, I like that stream-of-consciousness feel.

Yes, some of the scenes seemed rushed and I can see how this isn't a book for everyone. But what this book has is a very different feel than the same-old, pre-packaged garbage that you're going to get elsewhere. There is a rawness here with a very subtle polish that makes it slide down smooth even as it tears up your throat along the way. There's something about that contradiction that pleases me very much.

4.0 out of 5 stars Alice meets Steam Punk
My first impressions of this story was being a little overwhelmed. The author did a great job of twisting the classic Alice in Wonderland character into a slightly demented steam... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but Jumpy
This was a good take on Alice in Wonderland. I found that the time line and how it jumped drastically in that time line was kinda annoying. Over all a good read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Neat ideas, amateur writing
I liked the ideas and concepts, but the writing was very amateur. Author told you what happened, didn't describe it. No imagery. Nothing drove the actions. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Fair book...
This was a interesting read, but had a lot of gratuitous sex in it. I agree with one of the other reviewers that the end seemed rushed, and was not in character with the rest of... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Ick
I like both Steampunk and Alice in Wonderland, but this was a mess. Writing is very poor and juvenile. Don't bother.

1.0 out of 5 stars possibly the worst book I've ever read!
There are so many issues with this book. Hardly an original idea to be found here. It's supposed to be set in 1800s monarchy ruled America during a civil war, dialect and... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Missed the mark
A very odd but entertaining story. It had potential to be really interesting and fresh but it was so childishly written it fell way short of its mark.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting take on the story of Alice!
What a fun read! I'm not a fan of the original Alice story, but this was a great steampunk diversion. Not for kids, as there's lots of sex and gore, but quite a romp nonetheless. Read more
