About the Author

Author: Steve Simmons

Steven is the author of the best-selling children's book, Alice and Greta: A Tale of Two Witches (Charlesbridge, 1997). He was inspired to write the story while playing with his children on a hill behind his home. In an interview on "The Today Show," Steven said that he felt a "spontaneous combustion" as the story took shape in his mind. He visits schools and reads his stories to many classrooms full of eager listeners.

Steven is also the author of Jasper: The Fish Who Saved A Marriage (Charlesbridge, 1998) and Percy to the Rescue (Charlesbridge, 1998). In addition to his successful children's stories, he has also written The Fairness Doctrine and the Media (University of California Press).

Illustrator: Cyd Moore

Cyd has illustrated many children's books, including the best-selling Alice and Greta: A Tale of Two Witches, written by Steven J. Simmons (Charlesbridge, 1997), I Love You, Stinky Face, written by Lisa McCourt (Bridgewater, 1997), I Love You Bunny Rabbit, written by Shulamith Levy Oppenheim (Boyds Mills Press, 1995) and A Frog Inside My Hat, written by Faye Robinson (Bridgewater, 1993).

Cyd grew up in Georgia and received her B.F.A. from the University of Georgia. She now resides in Michigan with her two sons.

More About the Author

Cyd Moore was born in Georgia but has lived in Michigan for many years. After graduating from the University of Georgia, she worked as a graphic designer for television, advertising, and newspaper publishing. You might also have seen her art on McDonald's Happy Meal boxes, games, and magazines. But her real passion is illustrating children's books and so far, she has over 40 published titles, including the best selling I LOVE YOU STINKY FACE series. WILLOW was chosen by Oprah's Book Club and the creative little girl returns in the new sequel, WILLOW AND THE SNOW DAY DANCE.

Cyd is a dynamic speaker and always a favorite at conferences, libraries and schools. This southern belle inspires gasps and giggles, creative thinking, and a love of story and art. She relates to kids on their level, so they are laughing and learning and getting inspired to write and draw and try almost anything! She has the ability to handle a large crowd and engages all ages--high school art students to even the most wiggly 'worms' in kindergarten are spellbound!

"My everyday job is drawing picture books. But, I'm passionate about encouraging kids to love reading & learning, to be playful hard workers, and to believe big things can happen. Look at me--a little girl raised in a crooked farmhouse in the woods of south Georgia grew up to have a tall stack of books with her name on the covers! How great is that!"

4.0 out of 5 stars Alicia y Greta, July 24, 2000

This review is from: Alicia y Greta: Un Cuento de dos Brujas (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
Alicia y Greta is a funny book about two witches. One of them (Alicia) uses her witch capabilities to do good, and the other... you got it! She does exactly the oposite. In this book kids will read about the naughty things Greta does with her magic and the nice things Alice acomplishes with hers. However, a problem arises when Greta forgets the "boomerang rule". The Spanish language used in this book is beautiful and at a level children can comprehend, many times the story's best parts get lost in the translations. Such is not the case with Alicia y Greta, a book all kids who love witches will enjoy!
