Lewis Carroll, seudónimo de Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, nació en Daresbury, Inglaterra, en 1832. Su padre era clérigo, y él fue ordenado diácono en 1861, pero renunció a proseguir la carrera eclesiástica. Desde 1851 vivió en Christ Church, Oxford.
