4.0 out of 5 stars Fun in 2D; GREAT in 3D
Although I did not see this when it was shown in IMAX theaters, I can just imaging how great this must have been on the huge screen, since it looks very impressive on my 53-inch screen! 3.0 out of 5 stars Engaging for kids, but adults too
I had viewed Alien Adventure on an HD channel I get and found it to be a total blast. I have no children and viewed it alone, but I know from expierence with nieces and a nephew that the younger set would enjoy watching the antics of the aliens visiting an unopened theme park and mistaking it for the way the whole planet earth is!
The animation is top quality, but...

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun in 2D; GREAT in 3D, November 10, 2001
This review is from: Alien Adventure (3D) (DVD)
Although I did not see this when it was shown in IMAX theaters, I can just imaging how great this must have been on the huge screen, since it looks very impressive on my 53-inch screen! The basic scenario is that a spaceship lands a scouting party on Earth, but in a soon-to-be-opened high-technology theme park, not a major city. Assuming this to be representative of Earth culture, the landing party splits up and enters four of the pavilions and take the rides. These range from simulator rides (like Star Tours™) to looping coasters. This is CG animation taken at least one step beyond "Toy Story" where you become part of the action. When watched in 2D in a darkened room, you can feel the dips, drops, and hard turns in each of the rides. When watched in 3D (using an optional 3D system) you can even get a little queasy. My only complaint is that this is fairly short at just over 35 minutes; however, there is a "making of" featurette, the original trailer, and a gallery of pictures in 2D and 3D. Oh, and it features great 5:1 audio as well.

O.k. look.....if you are watching or thinking of watching Alien Adventure in 2-D, you are really just wasting your time. This movie is enhanced 3Xfold by viewing it in 3d--and it is simply amazing!

Alien Adventure is the funnest DVD I own (and I have 100's), simply because of its amazing 3d effects.

Lights off, stereo sound cranked up, and with LCD glasses on, Alien Adventure is quite a crazy ride. Rollercoaster rides through the Arctic and Prehistoric times are simply spellbinding; as is also a GREAT trip through a child's bedroom filled with all sorts of toys, gadgets, and gizmos.

The story is not the point of Alien Adventure (although it is a simple fun tale), as it is all about showcasing the latest in computer animated and digital 3D.

A fantastic job all the way around! I can not wait for similar movies to be released!!

These 3d short movies are the future of home entertainment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent in 2D, July 4, 2005

This review is from: Alien Adventure (3D) (DVD)
I bought this DVD because it was listed as an IMAX title, but it is also 3D if you buy the special glasses from the manufacturer(regular 3D glasses dont work with this title). The quality of the graphics are terrific, the plot is a little strange, but basically its aliens who invade and ride 4 virtual roller coasters at a futuristic theme park. The rides are pretty good and the concept and setting behind each coaster is unique. My kids love this DVD, and its worth the price!

(Buy it from the new & used section and you can get it for around $3.50 plus shipping)

The animation is top quality, but the sharpness and clarity usually found in animation films is not of the best quality on the disk. I did not view the 3-D version since I did not have the equipment to do so. (You will need more than a pair of 3-D glasses)
The other con is it is way too short, only 33 minutes. I was eager for more and when viewed on TV it seemed longer.
All in all, though, a treat for young and old.

1.0 out of 5 stars This 3D does NOT work on 3D TV's with shutter glasses, September 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Alien Adventure (3D) (DVD)
Amazon needs to get its act together on how it lists the "3D" DVDs! I purchased two IMAX large format 3D DVDs, and they don't work on my Samsung 3D TV with a Blu-Ray 3D DVD player.

Amazon needs to use the words "shutter glasses" to indicate the 3D DVDs that will actually work on the new TVs. 2011 is supposed to be a big year for 3D TV. Hopefully Netflix will do a better job than Amazon in how it lists their 3D DVDs.

This is not rocket science!!!

The seller did a great job and I received the movies very quickly. Until Amazon can do a better job labeling the 3D DVDs, they are wasting everyone's time and effort.

Not a happy camper. I will be sending the DVDs back.

This review is from: Alien Adventure (3D) (DVD)
Amazing DTS surround sound and stunning computer graphics easliy make this title the best dvd I own. Hats off to the design team, I can not wait for additional similar titles to be released.

p.s. skip the 3d horror collection - horrible sounds,
3d effects and story.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Alien Adventure (3D) (DVD)
The idea might be good but this is IMAX 3D. not home theater 3D so it does not work. my 2 3D movies I bought work well. this was designed for passive glasses in an IMAX 3D format. So unless you have an IMAX theater in your house......

1.0 out of 5 stars dated technology, October 7, 2011

This is an old 3D technology and is very dated. It is not compatable with the new 3D TV's that are out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Free on Cox, March 6, 2011

This is a cute cartoon w/ some really nice 3D features and minimal ghosting. It reminded me of the 3D rides at Busch Gardens. If I only had one of their movement seats at home!! Kids will enjoy this-parents note there is no violence or dark topics which are present in Haunted House,(this had the best 3D effects). To watch this through cox,(currently has 7 free 3D movies which I thought were all fun to watch, but varied in quality), you do need a 3D TV and your TV's 3D glasses.
