Aliens in the Louvre...The art of depicting otherworldliness, November 7, 2004
This review is from: Alien Chronicles (Hardcover)
In the vast ocean of literature on the "aliens issue" a book like this was sorely missing. It's there now, and it will be a useful tool in the neverending debate on the subject.
Author Matthew Hurley has done a meticulous effort trying to gather depictions in classic art (paintings) which might be showing aliens or craft thereof. Such references have been, of course, made by other researchers in various books but never, up to now, has someone actually published a book with photographs of such paintings, let alone gone through the painstaking work of first assembling the big catalogue of paintings that contain such bizzare (?) depictions.
In that respect, the book is a true gem. Most of the paintings it covers do originate from the rennasaince period and most are actually displayed in some of the world's biggest museums. The depictions on them that could be pointing to alien inspiration, or even, direct portrayal of an actual encounter, are for the most part impressive. Some could be, admittedly, perceived and interpreted in many ways, but some others (probably most) are so clearly not a part of the rest of the painting that one stands baffled looking at the image.
In many cases it is literally as if the artist is "screaming" to us that, yes, what we are looking at is not connected with the actual painting, but it's his testimony of the unthinkable.
Hurley's book is not a bulky affair, but it's packed with images and data many of which not even the most fanatic UFO buffs will be aware of. Hardcover, well illustrated, with several close-ups of the paintings in question, as well as quite a few that date back to the prehistoric era including statuettes. A must for those researching this field.

Okay, but could have been much better., May 6, 2010
This review is from: Alien Chronicles (Hardcover)
While I'm not quite as negative about this book as Mamushka, I agree with some of the criticisms. I bought this recently from Amazon.uk at a somewhat better price than venders are asking linked to Amazon.us, but it was still pricey considering. Considering what, one might ask? Considering the book does lift heavily from other sources, considering that there are many more depictions of apparent UFOs in other antiquated art works and cave drawings (that I have seen myself) than is included in this book, considering that many of the images contained aren't of the best quality reproductions and considering that the author really adds nothing new beyond what has been proposed by others going back a long time. For the price, I guess I expected more...more pages, more photographs and more incisive analysis than the author provides. I don't regret owning the book, but I do regret paying as much as I did for it. To be honest, many people reading this review could probably have produced as good (or better) a treatment of this fascinating subject than has been done here, if they had the time, interest and resources. Still, it is worth having if the price is right (good luck with that), and the author deserves credit for putting it together in the first place.

The Alien Chronicles: an irreplaceable, unique contribution to the UFO investigation, May 31, 2010
This review is from: Alien Chronicles (Hardcover)
This volume takes us on a whirlwind tour through the most obvious source for extraterrestrial encounters: our ancestors' art and writings.
Chronicles is a well researched volume with 150 clear color reproductions of original paintings and pictures since prehistory to this day including in the last chapter several sharp photos in black and white of UFOs and artifacts.
This volume is a serious, honest representation, and vast pictorial account that also includes ample textual information to be found nowhere else in UFO literature.
I recommend this professional publication to everyone especially to serious investigators on the subject of the presence of Unidentified Flying Objects along history.
