4.0 out of 5 stars The Alien Dark
I just finished reading this book for the second time and I am, ONCE AGAIN, eagerly waiting/hoping for the sequal(s). The feline AHSIN BEY crew in this novel survived decades on an advance mission (from which they cannot return) of travel, exploration, preparation, and in waiting for a colony ship from their home world of HASU-DIN to arrive. During their wait they also...

3.0 out of 5 stars Unusual 1st contact story
This is a story told from the perspective of some catlike aliens who approach a solar system with 9 planets where the 3rd planet is uninhabitable with a carbon dioxide atmosphere and the 2nd planet is livable. Most of the crew aboard the alien ship are like Vulcans from Star Trek. They are the Du-ahn and can only think logically. They sneer at the illogical,...

This review is from: The Alien Dark (Paperback)
This is a story told from the perspective of some catlike aliens who approach a solar system with 9 planets where the 3rd planet is uninhabitable with a carbon dioxide atmosphere and the 2nd planet is livable. Most of the crew aboard the alien ship are like Vulcans from Star Trek. They are the Du-ahn and can only think logically. They sneer at the illogical, imaginative Venja-ahn who discover that the 2nd planet was artificially modified from an dead world to it's current living state thousands of years ago by the now-extinct beings from the once livable 3rd world. The aliens are very interesting, although the author does go on a bit much about the differences between the Venja-ahn and Du-ahn. The biggest negative is that the author has not been able to continue this tale with a sequal.

The feline AHSIN BEY crew in this novel survived decades on an advance mission (from which they cannot return) of travel, exploration, preparation, and in waiting for a colony ship from their home world of HASU-DIN to arrive. During their wait they also survived an unforseen discovery of a seemingly dead alien civilization. I think it's only fair that the author let's us in on what happens next!

This is a terrific book. Very imaginative and thought provoking. I read it about 10 years ago and have been looking for the sequel ever since. I emailed the author about a year ago and seem to recall she said she'd like to write the sequel, but is not sure about getting a publisher for it. If she ever does write the sequel I'd grab it up in a heartbeat.
