Editorial Reviews

Uncut, English language, 1.85 widescreen release of the 1980 Italian Horror/Sci-Fi film directed by Ciro Ippolito (Sam Cromwell). Starring Belinda Mayne, Mark Bodin, Roberto Barrese, Michele Soavi and Judy Perrin. A group of cave explorers are confronted in an underground cavern by a mysterious living rock. Little do they know that it bears home to deadly, flesh-eating creatures, intent on wiping out the entire human population. Can they survive and ultimately prevent Earth's total annihilation? Never released in the United States, only a handful of countries saw a cropped and edited VHS release nearly thirty years ago, that is until now. For our inaugural release, Midnight Legacy is proud to present the first-ever widescreen release of Alien 2 On Earth. The definitive version, transferred from the original 35mm negative, which runs longer than any other version seen throughout the world. The presentation that finally represents the intended vision of Alien 2 On Earth.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blu Review 28 - Alien 2 on Earth December 2, 2010

Alien 2 On Earth Blu-ray Review

Distributor : Midnight Legacy, US

Alien 2 On Earth, or Alien 2 Sulla Terra, or even Alien Terror to UK horror fans, arrived on the horror circuit as an Italian sequel to Ridley Scott's original sci-fi/horror classic. Long before James Cameron wrote the official sequel, Alien 2 was gaining popularity among video cassette lenders searching for outrageous blood and guts mayhem and the film soon achieved cult status. Although in reality a very different spectacle to Alien, there exists certain similarities between the two films including a fair amount of suspense and some pretty nasty gore effects which should keep most horror movie goers reasonably entertained. For many years, the film disappeared into obscurity and could only be seen on vintage video cassette releases, where it remained abandoned without a modern day re-issue. Thankfully Midnight legacy have finally come to the films rescue by providing an outlet to produce high definition releases of some long forgotten and hard to find classic movies. To mark the occasion and make Alien 2 accessible to collectors worldwide, the distributor has presented this Blu-ray disc unlocked, so anyone still encumbered by region coding need not be concerned.

Alien 2 On Earth, sees it's first new media release in around 30 years and the wait has indeed been extensive but altogether worthwhile. Released here in a special extended version of the film, there are few releases these days that actually shock the viewer with the quality of their transfer, however the print displayed on this release is quite simply breathtaking. Colours are incredibly strong throughout showing excellent black levels and sharp detail with an absolute bear minimum of any visible print damage displayed.

Midnight Legacy Blu Ray ([..])

If you had told me that there would be a non bootleg DVD of Alien 2 - Sulla Terra on German DVD I wouldn't have believed you. So, imagine my surprise when this project from the people behind Midnight Video and Chrome Entertainment came to pass. High Definition European Trash Cinema has a new home, and Alien 2-On Earth is the harbinger of many things to come I hope. But more on that, and the disc, after we look at the greatest, and least likely, beneficiary of an HD transfer in many years.

"Cliff! It's immobile, waiting...above your head!!!!"

Alien 2-On Earth is a very very simple film. While it may bear minor similarities to Alien, exactly two little bits, it is a fun and gory diversion during the brief running time. Basically, after some rugged looking stock footage (with characters being dubbed within the footage!!) reveals that a space capsule is returning to earth we meet the pretty Thelma. She is a spelunker. She is played by the sexy and HD topless Belinda Mayne! She is also psychic. In tune with Aliens psychic!! And those Aliens are about to be Sulla Terra brothers and sisters of the Trash Cinema cult! She finds this out while on local TV unfortunately, as news producers ponder the mysterious circumstances around the capsule landing without a crew. So, this a bad news day and the stock footage can't save it. The hot cave woman collapsed and the space craft was empty dammit. But this is good for us! Why? Because the rest of the spelunkers are bowling! Nothing says SPLATTER like Italians bowling in High Definition!

2.0 out of 5 stars For collector's of rare films only January 7, 2011

I love 80's Italian horror films especially those have gone "lost" throughout the years...except this one.

I've heard of it for years and was excited to get it on blu-ray of all things but was severely disappointed. The first 45 minutes are so boring and once the gore starts after what has got to be the longest most irrelevant panning shot in film history it's really not worth it. If you're expecting something like ALIEN CONTAMINATION this film certainly isn't it. There is nothing clever about it and it's not even fun to laugh at.

The soundtrack is pretty cool but you do have to sit through this film to experience it. The transfer and quality is incredibly good. It would be great to see other Italian horror and rare htf films released this way.

Like the title of my review, it's for true die hard collectors only. My copy will be going on ebay soon.

I certainly hope MIDNIGHT LEGACY begins releasing more hard to find films since their previous company had amazing titles that they really knew about while releasing the best cuts and quality available (CROSS OF THE SEVEN JEWELS please!!!) This one just doesn't do it for me.

BTW the extra features are NOT presented in HD quality as a previous reviewer stated. The effects reel is pretty boring and if you watch the Dutch trailer you've seen everything you need to see in this film.

Red or blue case?
It will come in a blue case as the red case idea was scrapped.
