If it's available, I suggest everyone get it. It's not as gross as you think.
While Microcosmos remains the king of the arty insect videos, Alien Empire employs great cinematography, a sense of humor, and fantastic information. Some scenes, such as the butterfly flying and shedding it's scales in slow motion with the beautifully composed music is breathtaking. If only they would release it on DVD :^(

Not only is the amazing effort for all the camera work done to produce this series entirely awesome, but the entire documentary is excellent, interesting, and remains exciting all throughout. I can't even begin to imagine the raw hours needed to produce this. Very well done! Enjoyable by young and old alike. Those with a mild interest in the world around them or insect afectionados will both be fascinated. Not gross at all. I own this on VHS and too would like to see it come out on DVD.

I mainly remember this series from a Nature program based on it. It was wonderful. I surely hope they release this on DVD -- I'd snap it up faster than a bee can sting you.
