Book Description

August 1995
Aliens and their craft are a study in self-contradiction: UFOs lit up like Christmas trees conduct "secret" missions; supposedly solid craft merge like water droplets in mid air; form-changing beings profess love while subjecting victims to unwarranted physical and psychological torture; hypnotized abductees, whose memories were supposedly erased, manage to deliver extensive, pointed messages that are obviously meant to be heard.
Is this superior science? Wisdom beyond our understanding? Or are "aliens" not what they pretend to be? Alien Encounters takes a close and sobering look at the increasing sightings of apparent alien space ships, reports of contacts between "little gray men" and humans, and abductions of humans by technologically superior alien creatures in UFOs.
This book explains ancient concepts of extra-terrestrial life including the "returning earthling," "subterranean civilization" and other theories about alien origins; ancient and modern crash-and-recover reports; and alien connections to Old-World myths and fairy tales. It also explores claims of government coverups; mysterious reports of "men in black" associated with UFO sightings; evolving UFO craft designs through the years; frightening New Age religious connections; and human "go-betweens." Accounts of numerous recently-recorded encounters between aliens and humans worldwide, including abduction and missing-time reports, add to this book's wealth of information on these puzzling phenomena.
Alien Encounters is a refreshing look at the deceptive menace of alien visitations. It places events and all previous research in a new perspective, showing that researchers on both sides will continue to be deceived until they consider the fact that this phenomenon is both non-human and a hoax. Out of all the confusion about aliens and UFOs, the "stellar brethren" have achieved their goal: a rising generation of believers. This book is a much needed reality-check, offering the most compelling explanations yet.

More About the Author

I didn't consider writing as an avocation at first. However, there was the short story in college that the professor and class seemed to enjoy, and then there were the writing awards in law school and the invitation onto the law review. After years of editing the work of good writers, I found I had developed a good sense of how to present an idea in an interesting and entertaining manner. My first full book was one in which I brought a legal analysis to an otherwise unorthodox subject--UFO sightings and alien encounters. That was written for a religious audience. Two years later my publisher asked me to rewrite it, this time for a secular audience.

When the practice of law no longer held my interest, I transitioned into writing books for others--ghostwriting. I have been a ghostwriter for several years now, and am editor-in-chief at a ghostwriting firm, Scottsdale Multimedia, Inc. www.scottsdalemultimedia.com

We write several books each year for our clients, with content ranging from personal memoirs to scientific and medical treatises. I very much enjoy writing and supervising the writing of books for our clients, and learn a lot from the experiences of others.

I have recently begun writing a series on a subject that has intrigued me most of my life. In this series I deal with the big questions in life, set against the backdrop of the first humans who recorded their history. Although much of the material comes to us from religious sources (religious writings are the oldest after all), I have attempted to recreate that world in a likeness that anyone in today's world would recognize and understand. Indeed, from what we can surmise, there is little difference between the humans of 6,000 years ago and those of today . . . we face the same attitudes and challenges, and are surrounded by the same nature and vices. I hope you enjoy the series as soon as it is launched. We have set up an informational website at http://thebooksofenoch.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Reading -- Alien Encounters: The Deception Menace, August 5, 2004
This review is from: Alien Encounters: The Deception Menace (Hardcover)
Very interesting, containing many encounters and insights I had not heard or seen before. I am a skeptic, but James Thompson's book gives me something to think about. If people really are having encounters, it's not as innocuous as I thought before.

Mr. Thompson makes a lot of great points in this book. Very structured and well thought out theories. I thought personally that it is an incredible book.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Important Offshoot of Jacques Vallee's Work., August 23, 2009
This review is from: Alien Encounters: The Deception Menace (Hardcover)
Is this book an exercise in spiritual discernment or paranoia? I would lean towards the former. The reason I am giving this book five stars are pages 146-258. The first 146 pages rely heavily on Jacques Vallee's trilogy comprised of Confrontations, Dimensions and Revelations and will be redundant if you have these important books. Page 146 forward contains some of the most shocking original thoughts on the New Age, UFO's and abductions I have come across. The author is LDS but extensive knowledge of LDS theology is not needed to understand the implications of what the author is putting forth. Also, while I like the idea of adolescents setting their own pace in choosing what types of books to read, this is definitely a book for mature individuals. We all know adolescents love to read about UFO's but if I saw a 14-year-old reading this book I would cringe. Definitely a must for your UFO library! Also check out Charles Upton's Cracks In The Great Wall: UFO's and Traditional Metaphysics.
