5.0 out of 5 stars The equivalent of the "Monster Manual" for the Star Wars RPG, January 27, 2008
This review is from: Alien Encounters (Star Wars RPG) (Paperback)
This is a great resource for the Star Wars RPG. It is for the old West End Games D6 version of the game, but the info from this book can easily be adapted for later editions of the Star Wars RPG.

This one book contains info on DOZENS of alien species that have been published in over 100 WEG sourcebooks over the years (I'd say there are between 100 and 150 entries in this book -- it notes in the book that this is not every alien ever created by WEG, but that it comes pretty close). Some you will have heard of (Bothans, Ewoks, Noghri, Wookiees, etc.), but at least I've never heard of many of these aliens before (Abinyshi, Lurrians, Zelosians, etc.). Everything is fully indexed in multiple ways at the end of the book (there is an Alphabetical Index, Species Index, Special Environment Index, and Space-Farers Index). As noted in my item title, this is basically the equivalent of the D&D Monster Manual for the Star Wars RPG.

One of the best parts of this book is the detailed "Random Alien Generator" at the beginning of the book. For example, you can roll two D6 to determine the type of environment/terrain your alien is involved in (desert, forest, ocean, exotic, etc.), species origin (insect, mammal, avian, soft invertebrate, hard invertebrate, etc.), technological development (from stone age to space age), game stats, special abilities, and more. Each option for each category provides a detailed description/definition. It should be noted that everything is very flexible, so you can use all of them or just the parts you like, or you can select randomly as suggested or manually if you see something you like.

This is the first time WEG compiled all this great information in one easy to use location. And since this book is a bit older, many new players will not know about all of the species that are discussed in the book (which will make for some great surprises for those playing any version of the Star Wars RPG).
