About the Author

Gini Koch lives in the American Southwest, works her butt off (sadly, not literally) by day, and writes by night with the rest of the beautiful people. Touched by an Alien, the first in her Alien/Katherine “Kitty” Katt Series, received a starred review from Booklist and was named one of Booklist’s Top Ten adult science fiction and fantasy novels of 2010. Alien Tango releases December 7, 2010, with Alien in the Family releasing April 5, 2011, and Alien Proliferation coming in Winter 2011. Gini started writing as an excuse to stay up late playing on the computer while listening to rock music and mooning over pictures of hunky men. She's thrilled all that drooling has finally paid off.

4-1/2 Stars

I have been eagerly anticipating ALIEN IN THE FAMILY and catch up with Kitty Katt, Jeff Martini, and their band of merry Aliens from Alpha Centauri. I was so reluctant to start this series but have since loved just about every minute. This series is filled with an awesome heroine, and studly hero, wacky aliens, pop culture references, action, adventure, and twisting and intersecting plotlines.

Months have passed since "Operation Drug Addict" and Kitty has been busy planning her wedding. Both Kitty and Jeff want everything to be perfect and are feeling the pressure of being the "poster children" for inter-species marriage and haven't really gotten far in the actually planning. Oh, and they still have had to save the world from superbeings, too. Now that the wedding is six weeks away, it looks like a few more people are coming to the wedding than expected: like Amazonian assassins, spies, alien beasties, shape-shifters, and representatives from the Planetary Council, including members from the ruling family from Martini's home world. Why would so many be concerned about this wedding? Martini's royalty and the reigning King has his own idea about how this wedding should proceed.

Although I was eager to get my hands on this book, I had a hard time getting into it initially. I kept pushing forward and was SO glad I did because I absolutely loved it. This one was a bit different than I expected because the wedding really does take a life of its own and dominates the storyline and page time. If you don't like reading about all the wedding details and mushy wedding day romance, this might be a miss for you.

1. Kitty--Still love the girl! She's still so much the same, but is growing. She's still a dorky comic-loving girl who can get to the bottom of things. She's engaged to the man of her dreams and is freaking out! She's still flawed, which makes her believable.
2. Jeff Martini--Jeff is coming into his own in terms of his relationship with Kitty. He already had everything else in this life figured out, and now he's figuring out how to be with Kitty and deal with his jealously. It cracked me up that he's had "the jealously talk" with so many people. Pretty funny! I love his quirks.
3. James Reader--I loved the development between Kitty and James. They are best friends who go through a lot and come out stronger for it. I especially loved the little bit of insight James brings back with him. They always crack me up how they constantly make Jeff and Paul wonder.
4. Family--you can't have a wedding without the crazy family around, can you? We got more of Mr. and Mrs. Katt, Kitty's extended (and slightly crazy) family, the Martinis, and more. I really love that family plays such a huge role in this series. Very refreshing. Not only do we see the immediate family, but we get to meet some alien extended family. WOW!
5. Humor--So many times I was laughing out loud. I just couldn't help it. The whole book was just so funny. Kitty is very straight forward, but not overly rude and crude.
6. Storyline--again, we have a few plans in play that overlap. The story wasn't a rehash of the first two. There was a LOT going on. I few times I was confused, but it all comes together in the end.
7. A Wedding to Remember--Kitty and Jeff get hitched and it's THE event of the galaxy. Because the future of the younger AC generation is hanging on the Kitty & Jeff's marriage, Kitty knows that it's not going to be all that easy to get to the alter. But Kitty is Kitty and manages to handle that wrench in the works her own way and it's great!
8. The Ending--I loved how Ms. Koch ended this book. Not many authors are brave enough to do this to a hero & heroine in a series, but I have a lot of faith that if anyone can pull it off then Ms. Koch would be able to. Now I can't wait to see how she pulls it off.

There were a few drawbacks for me.
1. Multiple romantic options--it's kinda getting old. I didn't like Chuckie so much for a good portion of the book.
2. Aliens who beat around the bush--okay, so this one I can't get too annoyed with because this is just how all the aliens are in this series and so it's been very consistent and I can't expect the bad guy to come right out and explain his master evil plan right away. However, it was sometimes confusing when Kitty would have to drag information out of aliens because aliens can't lie and so sometime beat around the bush instead of just coming right out and saying it.

All in all, I really enjoyed ALIEN IN THE FAMILY. Despite the bumpy beginning, it was an awesome read. I hope you like weddings, because Kitty's getting married and it's taking center stage in this latest installment.

As a bonus, we get an excerpt to the 4th Alien book, Alien Proliferation, which I can't wait for.

1.0 out of 5 stars Did Ms. Koch let a 12 year old wrote this book? June 6, 2011

I have to respectfully disagree with all the 5 and 4 stars review for this book. Before I get flogged for it, let me say that I enjoyed the first book, and liked the second book very much. I just can't enjoy this third book because I have 2 big problems with it:

1)Kitty - everyone love her, and she can do no wrong. All the men are in love with her, and I mean, all the men. They go on and on and on how sexy she is, her breasts, her body, her hair, etc, etc, and gag. She solved inter-galactic problems in 2 chapters, and the rest of the book is all about how great Kitty is. All the women adore her, and I mean, every single one.
2)Jeff - he was a jealous type starting in book one. Ok, understandable since they're just beginning the relationship. But his jealousy has gotten to the point where everyone must bend over backwards to assure him that they have no intention taking Kitty away from him. It gotten to the point where I thought he's really not all that stable and really need a good therapist to smack him in the head.

So, if you like the first and second book like I did and want to read this one, borrow from the library. It'll save you the aggravation.

Alien in the Family is the third book in the Alien series by Gini Koch. While you do not have to read the books in order, I highly recommend that you do.
Ms. Koch has created a complex world of characters deep with history and backgrounds, and not reading the two previous books will diminish your overall experience of Alien in the Family. You will not appreciate the little things the characters bring to this story without knowing their history and motivation behind them. With that being said, this book can still be read as a standalone and enjoyed immensely.

Consider yourself warned: In order to review this book some spoilers will occur in regards to the previous two books.

Commanders Katherine "Kitty" Katt and Jeff Martini spent the last six months happy and content. Well, as content and happy as one can be while saving the world from fugly parasitic monsters bent on destroying mankind. You see, Kitty and Jeff are on the Alpha team for the Centaurion Division, a super-secret organization that stands between the earth and the evil nasties the universe keeps throwing at them. Killing fuglies and saving the world - it is just routine.

You might wonder what Kitty's qualifications are? She wields her purse and contents with the precision of a neurosurgeon. She seems to be a homing beacon for all things evil, and she can do no wrong for a super-consciousness inhabiting the body of a friend, not to mention her irresistible appeal to all things male - this one does boggle her mind a bit. She claims Chuckie, her child hood best friend, is a conspiracy theorist; but Kitty has him beat. Now for Jeff's qualifications, well he is an alien, super sexy, super strong, super manly, super sensitive (he is an empath after all), super jealous and super in love with Kitty. Yeah, I see you get the point he is a Superbeing after all so his qualifications are pretty obvious.

So planning a wedding is crazy to begin with but when you have human and alien cultures to think of its difficult to say the least - but Kitty she likes to step it up a notch - she never does anything simple. Take the Alien Amazonian assassins bent on killing pretty much everyone but most importantly men. Internal A-C fraction of discord bent on mucking everything up. A super-consciousness with a god complex, who has an army of warriors bent on killing everyone. A very archaic `stupid' family marriage test that Kitty knows she is going to fail. A family from hell - not to mention a major smack down in the desert, if Kitty can survive this she might be ready for James the wedding planner dictator.

Thank the heavens for the Poof ... yup that's all I am going to say on that! Really I said spoilers for the other two books not this one.

Alien in the Family doesn't give you a moment to catch your breath. Its a journey of emotions right from the first chapter and like a roller coast these emotions just keep getting bigger and bigger right till the end. You will laugh and cry with these two right along with there supporting cast of old and new friends, way to many to list but all important. Overall, this book rocked and roll. It was the perfect book for me written with the perfect balance of action, romance, aliens and friendship and as such gets a perfect score. I will say this - my absolute favorite moment of the Alien series is in this book and you would be surprised as to exactly what it is!

My only complaint - I have to wait until the next one.

Why do I love this series because Kitty has flaws, it makes me laugh, cry and just all around feel good - isn't that what a book is suppose to?
