Very Persuasive,

This review is from: Alien Intrusion-Audio (Audio CD)
Bates quotes UFO researcher Dr. J. Allen Hynek in the book:
"The attitude we are taking in the Center for UFO Studies is that since we are going to have scientists involved, we will push the physical approach as hard and far as we can; instrumentation, physical evidence, photographs, radar records. If we are finally forced by the evidence itself to go into the paranormal, then we will." This is Bates' approach in this book and he does a superb job of exploring the subject: - First, he traces the development of science-fiction. - He explores "science-fact", demonstrating that intergalactic communication and travel is scientifically impossible. - He examines the `evolution connection' to UFOs. To wit, IF, 1) life evolved here by chance; and 2) there are likely innumerable planet systems in the universe; THEN 3) it follows that life has doubtless evolved elsewhere. Interestingly, `aliens' often affirm the theory of evolution in their messages. - Bates then offers a sound rebuttal of evolutionary theory. Further, he delineates the delicate balance of `finely-tuned' factors necessary for life to exist and how unlikely it is that such an environment exists outside of Earth. - Bates' also examines the `religious connection'. This connection appears both in the messages of the `aliens' and in the lives of the contactees. The `alien' messages always reflect New Age beliefs, usually denying that Jesus is the Son of God. Also, those involved in the New Age or the Occult are far more likely than others to have such encounters. Many others become obsessed with these after encountering `aliens'. - The author then examines what the Bible has to say about demons and their activities and the practices of those who worshipped them. - Next, he surveys ancient and other historical accounts of people who claimed to have had encounters with demons, fairies and other fantasy creatures. It is stunning how the accounts of those who claim to have ecounterd 'aliens' align precisely with these ancient narratives. - In detail, Bates' surveys the research, experience and conclusions of prominent UFO researchers; demonstrating that though most of the accounts have been debunked, many remain unexplained. He comes to the conclusion that UFOs are a spiritual phenomenon, demonic in nature. This is not a unique conclusion. Other researchers involved with the subject for many years, secular and Christian, have come to similar and identical conclusions for solid and rational reasons. One investigative group that came to the above conclusion was CE4, founded by Joe Jordan and Wes Clark. Bates observes, "CE4 discovered, by means of practical research and not pre-existing belief in Christianity, that the Bible provided answers to the nature of this spiritual battle. It has been written of these researchers, `Jordan and Clark did not start out as Bible-pounders with a point. In fact, quite the opposite; they were just looking for truth like everyone else. It was the research they did and the data they found that made believers out of them." Indeed, Clark was not religous at all and Jordan was a crystal-waving New Ager - yet both became believers in Christ through their research. What Jordan & Clark found was a `dual' theme in their research. First, committed Christians were rarely found among the encounter/abduction victims. Second, those that were found (including `half-hearted' or `backslidden' Christians) among the victims were able to stop the experience by invoking the name of Christ. Jordan contacted many of the leading abduction researchers in the U.S. and every single one of them confirmed these very same patterns in their own research. They stay silent about these facts because they don't know what to make of them and do not want to be ridiculed and ostracized by their colleagues. Many will scoff at this, but such protests are usually rooted in a dogmatic materialism; refusing to acknowledge any reality beyond what can be seen, measured, tested, etc. People like this remind me of another quote in the book by UFO researcher Jacques Vallee: "I could expect no cooperation from most of the UFO believers who were willing to help me only to the extent that my conclusions would support their preconceived idea that UFOs are extraterrestrial visitors to the earth." Like the true-believers dismissed above by Vallee, fundamentalist atheists will disregard any conclusions that do not conform to their stanch, predetermined rejection of anything beyond the material universe. That Carl Sagan's book, 'The Demon- Haunted World', is suggested as a rational alternative is laughable. Sagan was a dogmatic atheist who famously asserted that, 'The Cosmos is all there is, ever was, or ever will be'. That is a bald statement of faith, not a scientific conclusion. It is IRRATIONAL to assume that nothing lies beyond the grasp of science. The genuinely rational approach is that of Hynek, quoted above. Many will disagree with Bates' conclusions and that is fine. But it would be a mistake to dismiss them as fundamentalist nonsense. He does have a 'prior faith commitment' to Christianity, as Sagan did with atheism; but his work is honest, thorough and very persuasive.

Very Good!!,
This review is from: Alien Intrusion (Updated & Expanded) (Paperback)
This book just confirmed to me that little voice that says, "there is something more to this". I really enjoyed this book, and I found that the way that it was written easy to read.
I liked how he looked back to media/history and follows the evolution of sightings, and how as time goes by we learn a little more about the agenda that these spiritual beings have for us as a society. Funny thing... the week that I read this book, I saw aliens everywhere. On a cartoon for kids on the television, and on talk back radio they were talking about abductions and who has experienced them. The irony of it. Anyway this book answers some gnawing questions that some may have, and for others it will give a little more insight and give a biblical perspective. I am glad that I have purchased this book.

Aliens exposed,
By
This review is from: Alien Intrusion (Updated & Expanded) (Paperback)
This is an incredible book. I couldn't put it down. Gary Bates does an incisive job of separating the chaff from the wheat on all things alien - all those nagging `could there really be?' type questions that a lifetime of exposure to science fiction engenders.
If you're keen on finding aliens alive and well in outer space, or crashed and cornered on earth, then be prepared for a let down. Gary's collation of evidence from leading science authorities clarifies and deflates the extraterrestrial hypothesis comprehensively. His detailed documentation of the Roswell wreckage and other icons of `aliana' (my term) likewise reduce these once-compelling mysteries to the ho-hum sort of human explanation that the imagination disfavors, but the intellect realizes is all too true. But what about the `residuals' - those cases in which careful investigation reveals that genuine encounters with non-human intelligences _have_ occurred? This is where the books gets creepy. One page in particular (I won't spoil it by telling you which) sent chills down my spine. And ominously, there are reportedly millions (yes, _millions_!) of such encounters occurring, to people from virtually all walks of life (note - with a total lack of corresponding observations of space craft zipping in and out of the earth's atmosphere). This is something that, if it doesn't already affect you directly, will sooner or later happen to someone you know. Given the malevolent nature of such encounters, as attested by truly stomach-turning contactee testimonies, this is something you (well, most of us) would want to avoid. Incredibly, there apparently is a way to avoid them. Did you notice that earlier I said "virtually" all walks of life? That's because leading UFO researchers have consistently found, but (prior to Gary Bates) like cowards consistently failed to inform the public, that there is one specific category of people apparently immune to the malicious depredations of these other-worldly predators. Read the book and find out. :-)

Page turner,
By
This review is from: Alien Intrusion (Updated & Expanded) (Paperback)
First I want to say this isnt a Christian book about UFOs. This is a book about UFOs written by a Christian. Theres a big difference. Out of 10 chapters only the last two talk about the authours views of the situation covered in the first 8 chapters which are obviously going to be influenced by his belief system. So dont be scared away thinking this is a preachy Christian "tract". It isnt. Its a serious look at the data. Of course Christians should read this book as well.
The author has a very easy going writing sytle and once I started I couldnt put it down. Its a real page turner. For me its an excellent source because it compiles a LOT of data together in one handy book. The chapter on abduction was particularly disturbing. Before I read this book I was a hard line sceptic when it came to UFOs and abductions. I just thought everyone of them could be explained naturally. But this book has changed my mind. Sure the vast majority can still be explained away easily. But there is something going on. These "aliens" are niether our friends or saviours. I highly recomend it to anyone who has any interest in science, science fiction, evoluton, Christinaity or UFOlogy.

This review is from: Alien Intrusion (Updated & Expanded) (Paperback)
The first 75% of this book is a very good overview of the entire modern topic of UFOs and Aliens. It is a good overview, from a skeptical point of view. It debunks all of the major UFO/Alien stories.
It also shows us that, unfortunately, some UFO followers treat their belief in UFOs as a substitute religion, (while they accuse the Bible of promoting a false religion which UFOs debunk, "Hail Bopp"). What makes this book unique is the last 25% of the book, where we finally get to the author's point: the phenomena known as UFOs and Alien Abductions can be explained from a Biblical point of view, and exposed as tricks of the devil. To this end, the author makes many convincing Biblical references to support this premise. This is the first time I have ever heard of this concept in a book. Most UFO books, if they mention the Bible, they make the Bible fit into their belief in UFOs--a spiritual dead end. This book looks at UFOs, as explained by the Bible. The result is a successful spiritual outcome for the true believing Christian. The book explains for the first time, the covered up testimony of alien abuduction victims who testify that they have actually STOPPED abductions by uttering the name of JESUS. I believe this to be true for similar reasons in my own experience. I grew up haunted by and infatuated with the whole UFO/occult scene, urged on by an influential relative who believed in UFOs, and I really feel like it wasted decades of my life, trying to get to the "truth" about UFOs, while my life was stuck in a perpetual dead end. After getting saved and becoming a Christian in 1998, my whole life has changed for the better, and the creepy, haunting UFO experiences have stopped. As if "UFOs" and "Aliens" are as influenced and fear Jesus as much as the demons in the Bible flee from His presence. This Bible aspect of demons MASQUERADING as UFO Aliens is definitely on the right track. The author explains that though these UFO/Aliens are NOT from another planet, they ARE from another DIMENSION, which the Bible calls the SPIRITUAL REALM. From the Spiritual Realm is where these trouble making demons are acting like space aliens, to trick our "modern" minds. Do not be fooled. Get this book, read it, then get into the Bible, not UFO's. The TRUTH will make you free. The truth is JESUS not UFOs!

Chilling and Profound,
By Taylor Adams (Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Alien Intrusion (Updated & Expanded) (Paperback)
As Christians, we owe it to ourselves to read this book. We must have answers to today's issues, but more importantly we must know the nature of the "UFO Movement" in order to help those sucked into the bottomless pit of UFOlogy and UFO cults.
This book lays everything down in a clear, concise, rational manner that cuts directly to the central issues. Writing with an engaging and un-academic style, Bates pierces through the fog of disinformation on UFOs and alien encounters while always managing to express his ideas in clear language that is immediately grasped by the reader. The book starts off a tad slow in the first two chapters in discussing science fiction (he notably omits the Babylon 5 TV show in this chapter) and other, more general, themes. But don't skip those chapters. They are just as readable as the others and contain important information. I imagine my response was simply a desire to move on to the actual alien sightings and abduction stories, but after finishing the book, I'm extremely glad I read it from beginning to end, instead of skipping parts. The next five chapters are wonderfully written, each one building off of the next in a way that only fiction usually does, the conclusions of each chapter becoming more and more startling and in some cases, chilling. Chapter 7 is worth the price of the book itself. That chapter left me stunned. Not a "why, Bates has come up with a facinating notion" stunned, but a "watching the Sixth Sense for the first time" stunned. The kind of stunned that leaves you breathless. His conclusions are, in my estimation, right on the money in pinning a connection between UFOs and New Age/occultic beliefs. Having been rescued from being far too deep in occultism and New Ageism for my own good, I can attest to the accuracy of his research in this regard. Overall, I cannot recommend this book more highly than I already have. A good companion book that reaches similar conclusions (and was written 20 years before) would be Gary North's "Unholy Spirits."

Old evidence -- new glasses,
By Michele Pomauski (Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Alien Intrusion (Updated & Expanded) (Paperback)
At least I credit the opposers of this book with the fact that they've actually bothered to read it before they proceeded to try and discredit the author's conclusions. So many people latch on to someone else's view (or worse still, bow to their own deeply ingrained bias) and write something off before they even bother to examine the evidence.
And evidence I found aplenty in this fascinating, `too-interesting-to-put-down' book. This refreshingly frank author is obviously fully aware that his take on the topic of UFOs / alien life might not please everybody, and yet he not only has the courage to state his view, but obviously has the expertise and knowledge (gained by scrupulous research) to back up that view with intriguing evidence. Evidence including documented frauds which are still perpetrated today despite the facts. Evidence which has largely either not been considered at all or has been examined only through ET-believing glasses. Those who've watched enough episodes of `CSI' will understand what I mean when I say that the `obvious' answer is not necessarily the correct one. It seems incongruous to me that reviewers who take exception to this book should encourage `free-thinking' while closing their own minds to the fact that there may be an explanation that far better fits the facts than their own. What we are dealing with here is an unseen dimension. Is it so `off the planet' to ascribe this to an unseen spiritual dimension rather than an unseen extraterrestrial one? After all, despite all the megabucks spent on SETI to date, have we yet heard that indisputable `blip' that would establish, without a shadow of a doubt, that there is life `out there'? Perhaps it's time to go back (as the CSI team do) to the evidence we've already examined and see if there's something we've missed - i.e. look at the same evidence through different glasses. Gary's book gives us the opportunity to do that. For anyone wanting to be fully informed on this subject and consider all possibilities, this is a must read.

I have researched many things over the last 25+ years on the evolution/creation controversy and have spent a great deal of time in the past with research into the New Age Movement (which brings in much of this UFO information. I found this book to be an excellent synthesis on much of this information and goes a long way to tie the knots together on these issues. His conclusions ended up mirroring the conclusions that I have made over these years of research, which I found comforting. It does take an objective mind, even for Christians to read this book as it is not way "main stream" and he points out how much the church is failing to minister to these people that have been devastated by these experiences that seem so real to them, but many of which never actually happened. They are searching for answers, but they are not finding them in the church and turn to false, almost pseudo-religious organizations to find answers and do not find the truth. As a scientist, I find it takes a little different tact to think about these things. It is difficult, if not impossible, to use "empirical, reproducible" evidence as there are some things that science as we know it just can't explain and thus these things wax metaphysical, if not paranormal.
I highly recommend this book for those searching for answers to what is going on. This is happening to millions of people. This is not a small matter, and is something that Christians need to address and come to the point where we can help these people, many of whose lives have been devastated by these experiences. Incredible Stories, Facts, and Explanations,
By
This review is from: Alien Intrusion (Updated & Expanded) (Paperback)
If you are a fan of the "X-Files" or if the "Twilight Zone" or 2001: A Space Odyssey or Close Encounters of the Third Kind are a couple of your favorite movies, then you will LOVE this book! The author has done an investigative study of UFOs, aliens, and cults associated with them, and has come to some startling conclusions.
Most everyone has heard of Roswell, New Mexico, and a full chapter is devoted to it, descrbing in detail the events that took place in 1947, the people involved, and the mysteries remaining. Then author Gary Bates gives his opinion of what really happened. If you are really interested in UFOs, then you will be familiar with Travis Walton, who claimed to have been abducted by aliens from a forest in 1975, while six other men watched. The whole story is here. Fascinating stories of other famous abductions are included, as well as possible explanations. The story of the first death attributed to a UFO is also recounted. You will be fascinated to learn the connections between the increase in UFO sightings and the movies produced in Hollywood. Many science fiction movies are discussed here. Do you want to know more about crop circles? You'll find those here. Cults formed due to UFOs are also discussed here, and the "religious" men and women who head them. Are there alien "landing strips" in South America? Are aliens mentioned in the Bible? Gary Bates will tell you. What does the government (or governments, as UFOs have been sighted around the world) know? Are they withholding information? Do we have anything to fear? What should we do? You need to read this fantastic book, probably the most unique book I've ever read about UFOs and the phenomena associated with them. Every Christian should read this book since the author give a bibically based solution to these supposedly "unsolvable" mysteries |
