It's no secret...,
By miss fortune (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Alien Secrets (Mass Market Paperback)
I love each of Annette Curtis Klause's 3 books. My only complaint is that there are not more available! That said, I feel that Alien Secrets is an outstanding book. I agree, it is not as literary as Blood & Chocolate or the Silver Kiss. But that is not necessarily a bad thing. And this book is a lot of fun! While there is a good deal of mystery and suspense, it also manages to delve deeper and explore the motivations of the main character, Puck. I particularly like Klause's use of an alien to explore alienation, rather than the vampire or werewolf in her other books. And as in her other books, the main character (Puck) is growing up, finding herself, becoming self-reliant. It is a wonderful process to read, and a great book. Highly recommended.

WooHoo!!!,

This is one of the best books I've ever read. Heck, I'm 20 and I still marvel at Annette Curtis Klause's abilites as a writer. She is wonderful. I read this book when I was 12 years old and have never regretted it; no matter what age, if you have an imagination you'll love this novel. Children will be captivated by the wonderfully drawn characters and the rich scifi drama. If they ever make a movie or TV drama out of this, I'll hope it turns out half as good as the book.

Thriling adventures,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Alien Secrets (Paperback)
Puck, a teenaged girl, takes a haunted spaceship to Aurora. Onboard Hush, a double-jointed alien with a conehead, loses his prize possesion, the Soo. The Soo is a shimmering crystal-like object. Puck and Hush, who are now friends, have some very strange encounters, including coming across one of Hush's enimies, on their journy to find the Soo. The Grakk, Hush's enemy, threatened to kill anyone who tried to stop her from getting off the ship. This book gave me a mixture of feelings. Some part are funny, some exciting, some sad:but all good. From page one I was hooked. This book is athrilling sci-fi adventure. I recomend it to all young readers.

Aliens, spaceships, ghosts; what will they think of next?,
By Myra Schjelderup "Ignolopi" (Salt Lake City, Utah, USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Alien Secrets (Paperback)
This is about a girl named Robin Goodfellow - a name she really doesnt like (for people keep quoting Shakespeare to her), but she does like the nickname which goes along with it, Puck. Puck gets expelled from school (seventh grade, I think), and so then is going to go to the planet Shoon (as know by the natives) to be with her parents. On board, mysteries arise. Puck befriends a Shoowa, who is also going home in shame, but because he lost (it was stolen) a precious relic of his people. Puck decides to help Hush, and together, they must find out who stole the Soo, and where it is.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Alien Secrets (Mass Market Paperback)
The book alien secret is a book that has suspense that builds up in the story and it also has mystery. This is a great book for anyone who likes to read. This book is also one of the greatest books that I have ever read. So if you like book full of mystery and suspense I highly recommend this one. My favorite part of the book is fantastic the way she makes you feel as if you are in the story or traveling in space. Puck is traveling in space by herself when she meets two women MZ.Florette and MZ.cubek and she started traveling with them to different planets. If you are wandering why she was alone and the first place was because her parents are on a space shuttle there and she is trying to see them because she is expelled from regular school. On board puck is friends with hush a native Shoowa who is also returning home in shame he was in susted with the soo, a symbol of freedom for his people, and now it has been stolen. Puck believes the soo is hidden somewhere on the ship. She and hush must find it before they reach Shoon. Where she will soon meet her parents on another planet. My favorite part was when puck first met MZ. Florette and MZ. Cubek and then they started talking about why puck got suspended and got sent to space. The setting of the story was outer space and a galaxy mood to help the reader understand how the characters feel about their situation. About every ones problems pucks problem is she got expelled hush lost the symbol of peace. ]Lance Mial

A good Suspenseful read for all ages,
By Nancy E. "Nancy" (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Alien Secrets (Paperback)
When Puck is expelled from her school on Earth for bad grades, she sent to live with her parents who are studying alien life on Aurora. She know's they'll be dissapointed in her so she's not in the best of moods when she boards the Cats Cradle (the ship) until she meets Hush. Hush is an alien from the planet Shoo. WHen she makes friends with him she learns about the Soo, something very precious to Hush's people that he lost. If she can help Hush find the Soo he won;t return home in shame. But she's not the only one that wants it. And if she get's in it's way she might not make it off the ship alive. In my opinion this was a great book. SOmething that anyone can enjoy. I myself usually stick to stories about just the supernatural, and if it was by anyone else than Annette Curtis Klause I would have never picked it up. Now I'm glad I did! I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!

Lotsa fun,
By A Customer
This review is from: Alien Secrets (Paperback)
Alien Secrets is a great space opera--remniscent of the Heinlein juveniles of the forties and fifties. Unaffected and unselfconscious, the author takes the reader on a fun (and funny) trip through the universe. Annette Curtis-Klause's more serious fiction--The Silver Kiss and Blood and Chocolate--are better, more literary books. Alien Secrets is a lot of fun.

Klause does it again!,

This review is from: Alien Secrets (Mass Market Paperback)
I am a big Klause fan. While this is my least favorite of all her books I still enjoyed it. I feel while Blood & Chocolate, The Silver Kiss and Freaks: Alive On The Inside keep the element of romantic relationships, Alien Secrets skips the romance all together and concentrates more on the building of a friendship. This is probably in part to the fact that Puck is the youngest of Klause's main characters (I believe she is 13). This, in my opinion, makes Alien Secrets a great introduction to Klause's works for a kid who is maybe between the ages of 9- 13. I wasnt much of a reader at that age, though if I were I can imagine myself reading Alien Secrets at that age and enjoying it. The only reason why it is my least favorite is as mentioned above the romantic element was taken out and part of what I love about Klause is her ability to write about the heart felt romances of ones teenage years. That, however, does not affect my overall feelings about Alien Secrets and I think for what the story is and who is its best audience its a GREAT read. Even an adult could enjoy it!

A cat called Podkayne and howling ghosts of hyperspace,
By R. Bagula "Roger L. Bagula" (Lakeside, Ca United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Alien Secrets (Paperback)
Some people think reading is a waste of time. That children's books are worthless junk. I think that a good sci fi classic like Heinlein's Podkayne of Mars makes them very wrong. This author knows here plots and even mentions a very good book as a tv space play for the young central character. It is a mystery of aliens ( good and bad) and artifact smuggling ( very modern today!), but all turns out well in the end. The concepts of Alien art and relative ethno-exo-anthropology are even touched on. Not bad for a useless kid's book! |
