Buy the Ultimate Collection, March 13, 2004
This review is from: Alien Nine Ultimate Collection (Paperback)
Great series. It follows the story of three young girls who, with the help of symbiotic aliens called Borg, fight aliens that land at their school. It is all part of a competion between their school and others in their area. If you already have Anime Nine on DVD you may want to re-think this purchase. This collection includes the DVD. I found this out the hard way. I had already bought the DVD when I ordered the collection and now have to try to retutn one of the DVD's.

Complete Manga & DVD! Story is happy or dark?, September 4, 2005
This review is from: Alien Nine Ultimate Collection (Paperback)
Japanese anime, for all its focus on uniqe Japanese cultural problems, addresses in a serious way many questions which Hollywood trivialises (I am being generous to Hollywood here).
What does it mean to be human? To be forced into a symbiotic relationship? With an alien! Which may be parasitic? And you're a middle school girl! And puberty is interrupted permanently! Alien Nine is a serious and very well presented story. It's both happy and sad.
If you really want to think about what it means to be human/constructed/deconstructed see also Tenchi Movie 2, Saber Marionette J, Luv Wave (adult), and especially Ghost in the Shell.
