5.0 out of 5 stars "Alien:A debut album worth waiting for.", April 30, 2008
I'm a big fan of this group.Their sound can shake you right down to your soul.Another little known fact is that a remake of a classic 1958 Steve McQueen film debut called "THE BLOB"hit theatres in 1988,with Kevin Dillon(Matt's brother, and a very talented star himself)Alien took the center stage with the film's theme "BRAVE NEW LOVE"They made their mark in America. Most new groups make a dent with one or two short lived hits. But I think Alien has landed and will continue what I think will be a long running string of future hits.If you don't have this debut album, get it,and you won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars First class Swedish melodic rock, August 28, 2006
Swedish melodic rockers Alien launched their long-running career in 1988 with their self-titled debut album. Led by songwriter and guitar hotshot Tony Borg, Alien had a very polished AOR/melodic rock sound that was equal parts Bonfire and House of Lords. It is very upbeat melodic rock that really doesn't stray into metal territory. Vocalist Jim Jedhed gives a performance that is at times reminiscent of fellow Swede Goran Edman. All of the album's songs are strong, and should have been fairly big hits here during the arena rock era. Perhaps Alien's sound was too polished, and not "party rock" enough for the average hair metal fan.

"Tears Don't Put out the Fire" is a great opening song, but the album's surprise highlight is the band's take on the song "Only One Woman", which was written by the Bee Gees of all people! Their cover of the Hollies' "the Air I Breathe" is also quite interesting.

If you're an AOR/melodic rock fan, this album and the band's follow-up release Shiftin' Gear are well worth seeking out, though they're pretty tough to locate of these days.
