Or is there something stitched into the very fabric of the cosmos that explains their inexorable spread through the galaxy? 4.0 out of 5 stars One of the more thoughtful Aliens comics..., July 19, 2000
By
Nathan (Wilmington, DE United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Aliens: Apocalypse - Destroying Angels (Paperback)
From the title, I really was expecting just another military-operation gone wrong title, but this book was a pleasant surprise. Going back to the time before the Human-Alien Wars, to a time when, 20 years after the first Alien movie, most people don't even know the creatures exist, this book explores the creatures' origins. Why are there here, and who put them there?

Of course, these questions aren't all answered, leaving the door open for more Aliens: Apocalypse -- titles, but it's a refreshing and thoughtful changes. The interesting rescue story is complemented by good dialogue, typically wonderful artwork (some of the Aliens comics are so badly drawn it's incredible), and yes, a few action sequences.

While I liked that they were trying to explain the aliens, I didn't agree with the explanations, and this book somewhat contradicts previously published Aliens comics, making it hard to accept as part of a whole. Still, this is quite an enjoyable comic, one that should be read by every Aliens fan.

It's another story after the first Aliens movie. It tells how the elephant like alien came about the others from the begining. How they became to the planet in the first place and what happen after they were found.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Lot Better Than Recent Aliens Comics..., February 22, 2009
This review is from: Aliens: Apocalypse - Destroying Angels (Paperback)
Aliens: Apocalypse Graphic Novel Review

Grade: B+

Aliens: Apocalypse just about has it all. The art is excellent, (a lot better than recent Aliens titles, that's for sure!) and is illustrated by the incomparable Mark Schultz. The script is good, (I only dropped the grade from an A to a B+ because it sometimes lags with the dialogue) and actually answers the question I'd wanted to know from the original Alien movie: what was that giant creature/thing/monster that had been sitting in that gigantic chair, dead, after a chest-burster had popped out? (You know, that thing with the long nose, funky face?!)

As for the script, written by Doug Wheatley, is mainly about a rescue team going to see what's up with a missing crew that were checking out an oh so familiar ship...On with an oh so familiar gigantic creature...A lot of the plot involves that giant and its race, and how they came into contact with the Alien, which I thought got pretty creative; reading it was fun, for the most part. A ton of things from the first movie are solved, and the last part of the story is fantastic, with an Alien that you never saw coming in all of the history in the Alien comics!

This Aliens comic definitely stands out from recent ones in mind, (such as Aliens: Kidnapped and ALIENS ALCHEMY # 1-3 complete story (ALIENS ALCHEMY (1997 DARK HORSE))) and with its outstanding art, great story, and great characters, this one's a darn good read that you can't miss.
