One of the more thoughtful Aliens comics...,
By Nathan (Wilmington, DE United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Aliens: Apocalypse - Destroying Angels (Paperback)
From the title, I really was expecting just another military-operation gone wrong title, but this book was a pleasant surprise. Going back to the time before the Human-Alien Wars, to a time when, 20 years after the first Alien movie, most people don't even know the creatures exist, this book explores the creatures' origins. Why are there here, and who put them there?Of course, these questions aren't all answered, leaving the door open for more Aliens: Apocalypse -- titles, but it's a refreshing and thoughtful changes. The interesting rescue story is complemented by good dialogue, typically wonderful artwork (some of the Aliens comics are so badly drawn it's incredible), and yes, a few action sequences. While I liked that they were trying to explain the aliens, I didn't agree with the explanations, and this book somewhat contradicts previously published Aliens comics, making it hard to accept as part of a whole. Still, this is quite an enjoyable comic, one that should be read by every Aliens fan.

It's another story after the first Aliens movie. It tells how the elephant like alien came about the others from the begining. How they became to the planet in the first place and what happen after they were found.

A Lot Better Than Recent Aliens Comics...,
This review is from: Aliens: Apocalypse - Destroying Angels (Paperback)
Aliens: Apocalypse Graphic Novel Review
Grade: B+ Aliens: Apocalypse just about has it all. The art is excellent, (a lot better than recent Aliens titles, that's for sure!) and is illustrated by the incomparable Mark Schultz. The script is good, (I only dropped the grade from an A to a B+ because it sometimes lags with the dialogue) and actually answers the question I'd wanted to know from the original Alien movie: what was that giant creature/thing/monster that had been sitting in that gigantic chair, dead, after a chest-burster had popped out? (You know, that thing with the long nose, funky face?!) As for the script, written by Doug Wheatley, is mainly about a rescue team going to see what's up with a missing crew that were checking out an oh so familiar ship...On with an oh so familiar gigantic creature...A lot of the plot involves that giant and its race, and how they came into contact with the Alien, which I thought got pretty creative; reading it was fun, for the most part. A ton of things from the first movie are solved, and the last part of the story is fantastic, with an Alien that you never saw coming in all of the history in the Alien comics! This Aliens comic definitely stands out from recent ones in mind, (such as Aliens: Kidnapped and ALIENS ALCHEMY # 1-3 complete story (ALIENS ALCHEMY (1997 DARK HORSE))) and with its outstanding art, great story, and great characters, this one's a darn good read that you can't miss.

The best of a great series,

This graphic novel belongs to the Aliens universe. I have read all of these novels, but in my opinion, this one is the best. It picks up many loose ends from the first movie, such as the origin of the "Stargazer" race that H.R. Giger put in the alien derelict. The story deals not only with the classic "Humans hunting aliens" - theme, but goes deeper, exploring the origins and deeper purpose of this terrible race. This leads to a whole new perspective on our own place in the universe. And this novel does all of that without once becoming less thrilling and suspenseful than the others! The artwork is beautiful, die-hard readers will see much of H.R. Giger's original Alien design. So, if the Alien movies got under your skin - buy this one. You won't regret it!

Incredible,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Aliens: Apocalypse - Destroying Angels (Paperback)
Not only does APOCALYPSE feature mind-blowingly great art (superior to other entries in the comic series, namely KIDNAPPED and LABYRINTH) and an intelligent story which fits well into line with OUTBREAK, but it holds something that will attract ALIENS fans from across the globe- a *living* Space Jockey and, better yet, a Jockey-grown Alien (which, predictably, is ten times its normal size). With the exception of Keitel most of the characters are believable and somewhat likable. Great graphic novel! Thumbs up!

Don't look now...,

This is a very interesting story to say the least. Of the aliens comics I would say it is one of the more sought after books because it features, yes, a Jockey (AKA Big elephant thing in the space ship in alien) spawned alien. Also, this book, like many others in the series, features characters that to some degree resemble celebrities. I can make out a definite Gina Gershon along with other **familiar** faces. I gave this four stars because it was too short of a read, and lacked good characterization and ALIENS, there were very little aliens in this book, and the ones that were in the book weren't drawn very well. The _Jockey-Alien_ isn't such a big deal, but hardcore alien fans this is a must.

One of the more well made Aliens comic book.,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Aliens: Apocalypse - Destroying Angels (Paperback)
If you, like me, are a diehard alien fan, I recomend this comic book.At first I had my doubts when I saw it in the comic store. But after I bought it, I enjoyed it very much! I thought the plot was hard to understand at first, you just got to pull through to later on in the book to understand what exactly whats going on.The wierdest parts I thought were, the guy who WANTS a facehugger to play kissface with him, and HE DOES- and the android that blows up in the begining, I didn't understand what exactly what happened to it.
The overall bad /annoying stuff - the owl, I usually like owls, but for some reason, it really messed around with action and was annoying, at least I think - didn't have enough human blood, or cursing or blowing aliens to bits -it messed around with the evolution of the aliens, having a scientific name? wierd. ? why did the scientists call the aliens "angels"? - worst name you can slap on to a good comic Overall I loved the comic book, was especially well drawn. If you love those little monsters, and let the lil beasts into your heart, BUY this book. Keep em'chest burstin!
