Never in the history of movie action figures, have fans been as disappointed as the Kenner aliens and space marines figure fiasco. Although some of the aliens figures look somewhat movie accurate the rest are made specifically for the toy line. Bull alien, gorilla alien which were OK as long as they gave us a movie accurate warrior and a decent alien queen.

But then we get to the space marines. One can only assume that they used "Space Marine" because they thought it sounded better than Colonial Marine. Many people who were looking forward to action figures based on a movie that practically cried out for Colonial Marine Toys were devastated when they saw the figure selection put out by Kenner. Not one of the marines has an accurate uniform or even weapon. The only weapon that comes close in the original run is the smart gun with Drake, who bore the closest resemblance to his movie counterpart. Hicks almost looks like the movie marine but upon closer inspection his uniform and armor are nothing resembling the movie. And the weapons, such as mechanical gripping gun and giant rocket launcher were terrible. Apone's entire gettup is some lame truck driver outfit with red cap and another garbage assortment of weapons. Where are the PULSE RIFLES?

Apparently, Kenner thought that making too many soldiers that looked alike would be bad for sales. As well as making too many female characters for a largely male toy buying demographic. ( Hence only Ripley released in the US.) While they've always been right about the latter, boys will identify more with male figures, on the former they could have at least made one marine that looked like the movie equivalent.

Kenner later would go back and repaint their original figures in green to at least look more military.
