I am skimming through this book, and finding it at the same time amusing and exasperating. The author is attempting to explain extraterrestrials and UFOs from within a mormon framework, and while that may work for mormons, it doesn't for me, nor would it I'd think for any rational non-mormon person.
I picked this up at a thrift store, and I wouldn't recommend it...

5.0 out of 5 stars Having surveyed the evidence, this book's conclusion is compelling, July 3, 2005
This review is from: Aliens & UFOs: Messengers or Deceivers? (Hardcover)
Although this book is written from a specific LDS Christian veiwpoint, it takes a very broad view of the subject matter. I am fairly well read on the subject of UFOs, and the author cites many of the books I have read along with unique accounts from original sources, some of which are fascinating and shed new light on the subject. The book begins by laying a groundwork of what revealed scripture has to say concerning life on other planets. With this framework in mind, the author begins the journey into the contemporary body of work regarding UFO sightings, as well as the very creepy 'night abductions' which have been so well documented in books by Whitley Strieber, Bud Hopkins, et al. After all of the evidence has been surveyed, the author attempts to make some sense of it. Anybody who has read the literature will know that the UFO phenomenon simply does not fit into the scenario of 'spacemen' exploring our planet - There is a very spooky aspect which begs for some kind of alternate explanation. The author manages to provide this explanation with a mind-blowing conclusion. What makes this book so different from the other ones I have read on the subject is that the author uses the anchor of revealed religious truth to inform his conclusion. Other authors without similar underpinings can only report on the phenomenon without being able to make sense of the big picture. I have read this book several times and recommend it to anyone who wants to know what is going on with UFOs. Finally, let met add that anybody who thinks that the subject of UFOs is based on a hoax has their head burried in the sand, and they are welcome to whatever comfort that may provide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good, July 25, 2002

Very good theories, stories. I was quite disturbed about the one with the woman who has the continuous visitor -- I felt it could've been better explained why it keeps going on.

This review is from: Aliens & UFOs: Messengers or Deceivers? (Hardcover)
I was interested in reading this book mainly because I haven't seen anything out there that matched my belief in who and what the UFO's really are.

I was completly take in and blown away by this book. The stories are very interesting and the people are not the so called nut cases that many think are the kinds that see these things, some are pillars in their community and clergy.
I don't mind his relegious take on matters, I just think the most important thing is he is the most spot on person I have heard thus far on the subject of UFO's and he give good reason for us to believe in what he is trying to tell us. Anyone will and Should enjoy this book if they read it from cover to cover, not just skipped through it. Great Read could not put it down!

Loved it!

The author does an excellent job at presenting ALL sides of each issue, and let's the reader decide for his/her self. Anyone who believes in Aliens needs to read this in order to discover what they really are!

5.0 out of 5 stars A good resource for further understanding UFOs, August 29, 2011
This review is from: Aliens & UFOs: Messengers or Deceivers? (Hardcover)
This book begins by explaining and reminding the reader (which would typically be a Latter-Day Saint) of some basic and "deep" or lesser-known Mormon doctrines prior to continuing with specific UFO and alien accounts. I think some Mormons may find this book frivolous and useless, since they are not normally accustomed to seriously discussing this particular topic (no offense, and yes, I am a Mormon). I am not absolutely sure, but I believe this book was originally published to be sold exclusively in Mormon bookstores and not in mainstream bookstores, considering the publisher, and since there is always the assumption within the writing that the reader has no disagreement with the religious points of view throughout the book.

This is not a bad thing to be written mostly to a Mormon audience. In fact, a person possessing no background in Mormon beliefs may instantly decide to disregard this book after reading the first chapter; but that same person should also benefit from reading this book simply because it attempts to bring the complex and self-contradictory UFO/alien phenomena into a series of sections that can be viewed and analyzed through a more faith-based Christian lens. This book does not appear to be written to convince the reader to think like a Mormon might about this phenomena - but it does gather various experiences and documented accounts and presents them in such a way that the reader must make up his or her own mind. Without drawing conclusions, it does present unavoidable similarities between the vast UFO/alien phenomena and other types of phenomena such as Big Foot, fairies, trolls, spirits, demons, Satan, angels, etc.

I recommend that any person with or without religious or spiritual beliefs read this book in the same way that a student might read a math textbook. That is, temporarily accept certain principles as true as the author explains them and then look at the different scenarios through that particular lens. Things may not make sense or seem believable right away; but as you read, you begin to grasp the general concepts and how they are seemingly connected or disconnected with one another. You may not finish this book absolutely believing that this is the one true explanation of UFOs and aliens but you should see an extremely solid argument to an issue that, so far, has no absolutely concrete explanation.

The various accounts are very disturbing and I am somewhat glad that there are no illustrations. It includes some very interesting accounts which don't seem to be included in other mainstream UFO-related books, such as the account of Udo Wartena. I suppose it would be impossible to include all of the most detailed and unique accounts in one book. Maybe someone will do that one day. But until someone does, I think this is a great addition to a UFO/alien research library.

The copy I have is the 2nd printing from 1994 and I wish it were updated by the author, especially concerning the accounts from people he has personally interviewed, as well as any other insight he may have gained over the past 17 years. At the end of the book he encourages readers to submit their experiences to him, so I am sure he should have more information regarding this topic.

Great take on my favorite topic, not just for mormon audiences. I give it a 5 star rating because this book is very well written.

I picked this up at a thrift store, and I wouldn't recommend it unless you can get it for a dollar or so, and that is purely for the entertainment value... :)
Also, having been raised mormon (I am not anymore) I find his comments on "The New Age Movement" to be hypocritical and naive.
If you are looking for a serious book about the UFO/extraterrestrial phenomenon don't waste your time here.
