Jump Lists
New in Windows 7, Jump Lists take you right to the documents, pictures, songs, or websites you turn to each day. To open a Jump List, just right-click a program icon on the Windows 7 taskbar. (You'll also find them on the Start menu.) What you see in a Jump List depends entirely on the program. The Jump List for Internet Explorer 8 shows frequently-viewed websites. Windows Media Player 12 lists commonly-played tunes. Your Jump List missing a favorite? You can "pin" whatever files you like there. Jump Lists don't just show shortcuts to files. Sometimes they also provide quick access to commands for things like composing new e‑mail messages or playing music.

Improved Windows Taskbar
In Windows 7 you can "pin" favorite programs anywhere on the taskbar for easy access. Not crazy about the icon lineup? Now you can rearrange them any way you like by clicking and dragging. Finally, there are new ways to preview windows. Point to a taskbar icon to see a thumbnail preview of open files or programs. Then, move your mouse over a thumbnail to preview the window full-screen. You can even close windows from the thumbnail previews--a big time saver.

Ever need to cut through a cluttered desktop and quickly focus on a single window? Just click a pane and give your mouse a shake. Every open window except that one instantly disappears. Jiggle again--and your windows are back.

I ordered my Alienware M15x through the Dell website on 12/3/2009. Delivery occurred on 12/18/2009, which was the original order anticipated build completion date. Nice! The laptop is replacing a home-built custom quad-core Cosmos gaming PC.

During the purchase process, I opted for the RAM upgrade to 4GB @ 1333MHz, upgraded the video card to the 260m (and got a $50 Dell promo gift card from this), got the 1080p screen, and upped the hard drive to 320GB. I subscribe to Steve Job's notion that Blu-Ray is a bag of hurt, so I stuck with the DVD/CD slot burner.

Performance-wise, the M15x is Sea Biscuit. I've thrown several games at it, from Crysis (silky-smooth at high resolution), WoW, Torchlight, Fallout 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Half-Life 2, Sins of a Solar Empire, and Company of Heroes. All ran flawlessly, at max or near-max settings. The standard Core i7 1.6GHz (2.8GHz turbo) cuts through these applications like nothing I've seen. While I enjoyed overclocking my custom desktop PC, this machine doesn't really need it. It's greased lightning right out of the box.

I liked the price point. I knew I was getting a great machine for the money, and what I spent matches what I received.

Weight. This is a desktop replacement, so I expected some heft. I like the fact that this thing has some meat to it. If I wanted a light, take-anywhere laptop, I would have bought a netbook.

Alienware effects/polish/workmanship - worth the price of admission. This is a beautiful machine.

Dell's service. Anytime a company underpromises and overdelivers, I'm a happy camper. The M15x arrived way ahead of schedule, packaged professionally, and came out of the box ready to roll.

I bought this laptop over three years ago and it still runs like it did the first day. I've only ever had one problem when the power cord died, but who hasn't had that problem? Great graphics, very fast quad core.

Some things to note:
-Pretty heavy (around 9 or 10 pounds)
-Expectantly low battery life (about 3 hours)
-Kind of a beast, certainly not meant for school/travel

I was really into gaming when I got this laptop and it has treated me well through many online and offline games, never giving me issue. The support/warranty is pretty phenomenal including Next Day Business and Remote service through Dell.

If you're a gamer, I would certainly recommend this laptop. If you're just doing your normal day-to-day, I probably wouldn't buy it. It's pretty pricey, but you get what you pay for.

I got this computer last week and I've logged soooo many hours on it already its ridonkulous. Plays wow good. Super fast for editing photos (I'm a photographer so I opted for a larger hard drive). I will use this machine until it dies on me. Screen is crystal clear, boot times are fantastic. Good, solid, stable machine for gaming runs cool and we all know alienware isn't surpassed by looks. Get one and get the enjoyment I have from mine! Hoo-yah alienware!

I purchased my MX15 directly from Dell about 3 years ago. I also purchased a hardware support plan.

The laptop has always performed well, to a point. After the first 90 days or so, the machine would occasionally freeze up, or the monitor would go dark. During my calls to Dell, I was always encouraged to download the latest drivers and to keep the vents clean (which I did). During subsequent calls, I was told that my PC must have a software issue, and encouraged to purchase a software protection plan for $200+ dollars before they would consider pursuit of any hardware issue. This, despite my possession of Windows log files and screen grabs which confirm a "video hardware error".

Now my service plans have expired, and the MX15 will seize up (mouse and all) and the speakers will buzz once or twice a week. There haven't been any driver or related updates on the Dell site for my service tag.

Dell succeeded in pushing the issue away and down the road, until the point they were no longer responsible for it.

This is a nice machine when it works, and I suppose there are not that many lemons out there. But if you DO get one, good luck getting the Dell CSR to actually listen to you.

Strictly speaking as a photo/video editor, it's simply not reliable. In fact, of all the electronic devices I currently own, it's among the least reliable.

Excitedly bought it through Dell using a Sl'ckDeals promo. Considering my needs for multimedia editing, I was willing to sacrifice portability and battery life if it meant having all the "overloaded" features: powerful i7 quad-core CPU / dedicated nVidia 1GB GPU & 1080p res / backlit keyboard & rugged durability...

What I didn't realize was that I'd lose a ton of data and work because the system would spontaneously restart WITHOUT warning... several times atleast every week, and occasionally 3-4 times daily. I'm not talking about the system overloading with too many CPU/RAM processes and heavy usage... I'm talking about the system being idle, maybe a word processor running, and then it just blacks out and restarts. No save, no warning. Also, the USB ports simply stop working after the system has been over a few hours. After I reset the system to factory settings 3 times, I gave customer service a call. They recommended updating the BIOS and all drivers, then uninstall a whole crap load of updates that they said might be causing the conflicts. Still, it didn't help.

2 years later, I'm left with a very buggy, unpredictable, disfunctional system that ALSO lacks key upgrade features. It came with 6GB DDR3-1333 RAM (2GB Kingston + some obscure type of a 4GB Hynix). The max upgrade is 8GB, which is annoying if you do wish to max because you need to buy two new 4GB modules (finding that exact Hynix module is really difficult). All the USB ports are 2.0, nothing to be done about that. When upgrading to SSD, you're hindered by the SATA 2.0 limitation.
