Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I had purchased an Alienware 14 inch computer previously--a less expensive model--that had numerous huge problems right out of the box, so it was with relief that I saw that this one is working perfectly.

This is a bulky, heavy machine compared to most slimmer laptops and at first I was so annoyed with the thickness and weight I considered knocking off a star for this. The reason for the weight is that this is made of metal instead of plastic. Now I'm getting used to it, but I don't consider this something I would throw in my purse to carry along with me like I do with other small laptops. This one will stay at home.

Alienware, made by Dell, wanted to stand out from the crowd, and appeal to gamers, and they have succeeded. I'm not a gamer, but I still appreciate the deluxe premium hardware and features they included in this.

This machine is unique in the way it has options to light it up in every possible way and color and this is a hoot for that reason. You have a choice of numerous colors for four different zones of the keyboard, the strip of lighting around the edges, the mousepad, the logo under the monitor, and they little alien face on the top of the lid. And the colors are all gorgeous, making this super attractive, especially in a dark room. Even the A/C plug where it plugs into the back of the computer has a pretty light encircling it.

This takes days of fiddling with all the adjustments for screen brightness, how the mouse works, how the scrolling feature works, and how Windows displays things, and heaven help you if you need to use System Restore, as I have done twice now, because the adjustments start all over again each time you use it.

Alienware is just a name, but what's in a name?

I have rode the Alienware hate bus for a very long time ever since I was younger prior to the company being purchased by dell. My friends and I would always joke around about Alienware and how expensive their computers were. We would go on to their website and try and come up with outrageous specifications in the customization menus back when single cores were big and dual cores were just coming out.

I never thought I would one day finally purchase one for myself but it all started with one of the smaller units, the M11x R2 which I purchased from Ebay. I was so impressed by the versatility, reliability and performance of that model that my perspective of Alienware as a company was changed completely.

I wasn't completely sold however and was not sure how far Alienware would go with having been purchased by Dell. I did a lot of research before ultimately settling on this model. I was looking for a laptop that I could use while I traveled overseas as part of my deployment in the military and was looking for something with a bigger hard drive, more power and a larger screen.

There were quite a few brands to choose from, including models from MSI, Lenovo, and even Razers own "Razer Blade" Laptop. I wanted the best bang for the buck if I was purchasing a high end laptop and wanted the best specs with as much reliable performance it could give me. I did not plan to overclock or make any adjustments to timings or voltages and I still have not found the need to with this particular model.

It really is an amazing machine, both in consideration with it's performance and the aesthetics. The laptop looks fantastic and is not overly flashy.

Let me begin by saying: *cough* WoW hardcore gamer right here *cough*. Eh, sorry, I meant to say this: I was due for upgrade for a long time and as many of you, I spent hours looking through ASUS, HP, LENOVO and others, specifications, and also checking prices on other resources. For me personally this was the single best deal.

Pros: specs. Seriously. Also:
- No bloatware, yay!! Love Alienware for not trying to push a zillion trillion extra-lousy useless "partner" junk on you. I love starting with a nice quite system.
- Boots in seconds. Literally.
- 1 terabyte of memory. Say goodbye to having to back up everything to an external hard drive to create an Windows image, install a game or get 7 seasons of your fave sci-fi show in good quality.
- NVIDIA GeForce 765M, 2GB GDDR5 and 16 GM RAM. Lost in tech? Translation: hell itself will ran at many, many frames per second on your screen, with extremely realistic sounds courtesy of that Dolby sound system. Seriously. My last big "wow" was when I got a graphics card with dedicated memory for the first time, but this has been able to out-wow that moment. So, there: WOW.
- 16 GM RAM. Did I mention that already? Sorry, I have to mention it again. Downloading and installing and running WoW at the same time, while also running 2 more installs, having a Skype + video call opening, a couple of browsers and a graphics editor and switching between all of that without breaking a sweat. You just can't keep this baby down!
- Lights *are* cool. Even if you are a hardcore cynic and don't expect to go "ooh, aah" (I did not expect that from myself), they are still undeniably cool.
