Book Description

This valuable and unique book provides ideas for aligning IEP goals and objectives to new Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Current federal policy requires that alternate achievement standards be linked to grade level content that promotes access to the general curriculum. This succinctly presented book provides a clear framework for aligning academic content for students with an intellectual disability. Focuses on language arts and math, plus self-determination and assistive technology. Included are case study examples of alignment for students with moderate and severe disabilities.

This book provides practical help for creating lessons/ IEPs that match the functioning levels of the students with the age /grade appropriate standards . There are sample case studies at the end of the book that provide models of students with moderate to severe disabilities and how to create IEPs that comply with with new CC standards.

This was helpful and well written. As a SPED teacher it helped me update some new information, which every teacher should be aware of since core curriculum has replaced NCLB.

Aligning the standards to a student who may be high functioning is fine. The book is vague on how to align the standards to a student with an IEP who is functioning way below grade level. Some of the lessons will work for many Gen
Ed classes without students needing modifications.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aligning IEP'S to the Common Core May 10, 2014
This book was extremely helpful. I enjoyed the many detailed examples of the concepts that were discussed. I also enjoyed the many references to other publishings to help describe content that needed further explanation. I recommended this book to anyone who wants to learn more about the common core concepts.
