I enjoy listening to a lot of electronic music and I review a lot of electronica CDs. I get recommendations mostly from the Amazon computer and listening to my XM car radio on the BPM channel. I have few friends who are interested in electronic music, perhaps that's because I'm 74 and people of my age range just don't listen to such music. Well, recently I reviewed a Deadmau5 CD (For Lack of a Better Name) and a nice little discussion resulted. Amazon reviewer P. Harper suggested "Gary! Gotta go with Daft Punk!!" Well, OK. Daft Punk has been on my Amazon recommended list several times.Alas, which Daft Punk recording? There's many. I finally chose the "Alive 2007/Alive 1997 2CD set. I thought this set might give me a good introduction to Daft Punk, and it did. Plus, they were recordings of live shows. I doubt if I'll ever get to a live performance (again, I'm 74 and would feel rather out of place). In any case, they were very interesting recordings. I thought the Alive 2007 disc was far superior to the Alive 1997 CD. Well, that makes sense. Electronica music is a fast evolving genre, both in the composition of the music and in the hardware and software available to the performer/composer. Everything, including the quality of the sound reproduction, is superior on the Alive 2007 disc. Let's put it this way, if I gave Alive 2007 five stars, which it easily deserves, then the 1997 disc would be no better than three stars in comparison, and I don't mean to say that the 1997 disc is bad. I might suggest that if a purchaser has some special reason for for wanting both discs, then this set is a good deal, but I would give the set only a rating of four stars. Otherwise, I might suggest that a buyer go with the single Alive 2007 disc. It's just much more satisfying music. In any case, Daft Punk is clearly an outstanding group and I would rank their music (especially 2007) along with Matthew Dear (especially Audion and False) and Deadmaus5. It's beat heavy (employ a good subwoofer, by all means), has some nicely melodic lines and is extremely dramatic dance music. Again, the sound and composition is clearly superior on the Alive 2007 CD. Thanks, P. Harper, for suggesting Daft Punk. The music is so enjoyable that I've already ordered "Tron Legacy" and it won't be out for a month. Gary Peterson

These albums are great, excellently made, and perfect for anyone who loves great beats, awesome sounds and serious danceability in there music. Daft Punk need to seriously get on it and make a new album after the Tron thing fast.
