What a thrill to hear Mr. Furay belting out the Neil Young penned tunes from the first Buffal Springfield recording. In addition, he covers many of the old Poco favorites with the utmost excellence. It is indeed a "Good Feeling To Know" that the most gifted lead singer from the Springfield is back with a carrer spaning double disc recording.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Feelin' To Know, December 15, 2009

Richie Furay is the Heart & Soul of what has come to be known as Country-Rock music. His contagious, joyful energy adds an effervescent quality to whatever he does. In this album, Alive, he sings and talks his musical history in a way that you know he was glad to be there. The renditions of his songs from the Buffalo Springfield, Poco, the SHF Band and his solo career, both gospel and secular, are fresh and filled with the vitality that surrounds Richie. I get chills listening to this inspired album. It is a must have for anyone that considers themselves a fan of Country-Rock Music. Thank you, Richie . . .

Richie Furay has been one of my favorites since my teenage years. The performances on this album are ample confirmation of his talent and of his ability to induce a s***-eating grin in the listener. I remember inviting my college girlfriend over to listen to the newest (at the time) Poco album, confident in the belief that she would be as moved by it as I was. Richie is a treasure. He may never have achieved the commercial success of two of his Buffalo Springfield bandmates, but to me the measure of musical achievement is the way a song makes one feel, and by this standard, Richie stands among the giants.

Not having heard much from Richie Furay since the Poco days I was amazed to listen to these. It covers a wide range of great music old and new. Also, Richie sounds just great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Richie Furay is the greatest!, July 4, 2009
This review is from: Alive (MP3 Download)
Richie Furay is one of the greatest unrecognized talents in rock & roll history! While other lesser talents have earned millions of dollars in the industry, Richie gave it all up and became a Christian minister. He was the founder of POCO, the first cross-over country rock band that attained some limited popular success. Yet POCO was the band that gave the EAGLES their start and mega-million $ success. Richie has more talent in his little finger than most of the Eagles have combined! Yes, I am prejudiced in this matter. Richie's songs have withstood the test of time...over 40 years. His re-release of all his classic Poco and Buffalo Springfield songs are better than 95% of the "music" that infests our airwaves today. Will Richie's songs get any airplay today? Not in my lifetime! Why? Let's see. Richie sings happy songs about love. He doesn't curse, use vulgar language, or degrade women. Ain't no market for that kind of music today. The fact that he is a great musician does not matter. Great voice at the age of 64...does not matter today. He does not beat his wife so Richie gets no publicity. No publicity means no airplay. I really feel sorry for the kids of today. What will they listen to 20 or 30 years from now? The same crap they are inundated with today? I doubt it. I can listen to Elvis, the Beach Boys, the Beatles, the Stones, the Dead, Clapton...all timeless artists. What's out there today that is ever going to be classed as "timeless". Better yet, what is out there today that would even be classed as "talent"? Most of the clowns performing today couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. Whatever!

4.0 out of 5 stars Richie's On a Roll, June 26, 2009

This review is from: Alive-The Deluxe Edition (Bonus Tracks) (2 CD Set) (Audio CD)
Richie Furay needs no introduction to country rock fans. Suffice to say he gets some credit for inventing the genre, having started Buffalo Springfield with Stephen Stills and then continuing on with Poco for several years. I believe he's also one of only two pastors who are also members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. This double cd set is just a guilty pleasure for longtime fans, and a very entertaining history lesson for younger ones. He includes some of his recent solo work along with several Buffalo tunes from their first lp released in '66, I believe, and then continues through Poco and even some stuff from the short lived Souther, Hillman & Furay band. Kudo's also to guitarist Scott Sellen for managing to duplicate some of Jim Messina and Rusty Young's signature licks from the Poco days without losing track of the melodies. You can feel the era of the older B.S. tunes while the Poco stuff still crackles with energy. My only disappointment is that he only included one song from his recent worship album "I Am Sure," which I regulary spin during breaks at my church. But the best thing about this set is his fantastic singing. He hasn't lost anything except maybe the very top end of his range, and that's barely noticeable. To me, Richie is the "voice" of county rock, and listening to him sing is an unrivaled pleasure. Enjoy the ride.

5.0 out of 5 stars How about Part 2?, September 26, 2009
This review is from: Alive (MP3 Download)
Where's 'Tomorrow', one of his best ever? Or some of songs from his first and second solo record(I guess one or two made in on here).

Richie could do a second album like this without diminished song quality. He still has it...I've seen him live in recent years, and he's ageless.

i've been purchasing music by Richie Furay since the late 60's. i became a fan after hearing 'Kind Woman' on the last Buffalo Springfield album. What a prolific song writer/musician! Jessie Lynch's rendition of 'satisfied' gives me chills every time i hear it, such a talented family. Thanks Richie for the last 40+ years, please don't stop.
