5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and MOVING, August 13, 2008

Last month, I was watching LOGO. It basically was wallpaper. Just music in the backgorund. I was in the kitchen and I began to hear something that LITERALLY stopped me in my tracks. It was the video "For Someone" by Jake Walden. I instantly felt a lump in my throat and sat down to watch. While the video was obviously made for little to no money, it was simply gorgeous. Jake's eyes and movements were in complete harmony with the words that were coming out of his mouth. His voice was vulnerable and imperfect, and stunning. I FELT what he was singing.
The next day, I emailed him and he was kind enough to respond. I got his CD soon after and it hasn't left my ear since. It's easy to create one great song. Jake has come up with an album filled with them. Each one is a unique character that I have come to know, and love. I visit with them often. Some more than others, but everyone gets their turn.
Please give it a listen. You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jake Walden IS really that good, August 13, 2009
By
This review is from: Alive and Screaming (Audio CD)
The first review above wasn't kidding . . . Jake Walden IS really that good(!) -- the no fooling around lasting kind of good that makes for a gem in one's CD collection. I took a total chance and bought this CD from Amazon after listening to the 30 second clips posted. As "Alive and Screaming" slowly worked it's way into my soul, I just wanted to listen to it over and over again. Jake Walden has a lot to offer -- the songs are beautifully crafted and the lyrics are pretty amazing all delivered with his gravely warm voice. I have come away with the sense that this guy is the real deal and has a lot an awful lot of insight to share. All in all, I would definitely recommend this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars One to treasure..., August 28, 2009

This is an amazing album, both vocally and lyrically. Jake Walden has a voice that sounds sometimes like Joe Cocker and sometimes like early Gordon Lightfoot, and is perfectly matched to the intimacy of this music. When he sings over-and-over the line, "I don't wanna be alone," his vulnerability is almost painful. This is an album I've seldom stopped playing in the two months I had it, and have already given as gifts to several people.

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome and genuine, November 1, 2010
This review is from: Alive and Screaming (Audio CD)
I bought this CD not long after it's release. I listened to it a lot then, but in the midst of a move across town, it was stored away.

Recently, I re-connected with Jakewalden.com, and I dug out my CD.

Too often, I buy a CD, and there are a few songs on it I like, but often not enough to keep my interest. This CD does, and more.

Jake's husky emotional voice comes through the speakers and grabs me. His lyrics shake and wake me, and often feel as though he's telling a story of my life. "For Someone" is a perfect example of that. I can listen to that song over, and over, and over. Jake has an honest and direct connection, that eludes most song writers. As his lyric in "For Someone" says, "I'm just speaking from my heart", and that, indeed, he is. I feel his yearning, his pain, his love, his success.

Jake just recently utilized Kickstarter.com to raise funds to finance his new CD. He set a goal of $10,000. By the sessions end, he had raised over $22,000. That's how infectious and moving his music is to people. They genuinely care so much for what he's already written and recorded, they want to hear more.

Give Jake a try. He's worth it.

Right from the brilliant opening song "For Someone" Jake Walden's husky voice and brilliant own songs simply grab you and makes you want to listen to it over and over and start begging him for another album! This guy has got talent in all the right departments, he has a great voice, writes his own music & lyrics right from the heart and is easy on the eye too. Some of his music was recently featured on tv in Cougar Town as well. He's sure to be going places - do give this a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Albums I Own, November 1, 2009

I bought this album about six or so months ago and I still listen to it on a weekly basis. Jake Walden sounds like a mixture of Tom Waits, Rod Stewart and Bruce Springsteen, yet in the end there is nothing else like it. Everything about this artist, the voice, the music and most importantly the lyrics are completely original. And that is hard to find in todays's American music market which is saturated with wannabe stars. You can hear in each track that this man is all about the music, all about the art. And that is what this debut album is, audio art. If you are a fan of great singer/songwriters then don't hesitate to buy this CD. This isn't just music, it is an experience.

Also, check out his new EP "Bleeding Love". It is one of his best songs to date.
