Great live album.,

The Doors are a great live band, and this album shows it. Jim Morrison is a madman. If you like the Doors at all, pick this up.

Surprisingly, this captures the trippy, psychedelic energy of the Doors' live performances, resulting in a thoroughly fun listen. "Light My Fire" is just as trance-inducing as it should be, "Little Red Rooster" sounds just as dirty as it should, and "Moonlight Drive" feels just as mystical as one would expect. The only time it lags is when Morrison recites his damnedly sober poetry.

They've tried to replace it with some other Doors Live releases, but this is a great CD. If you can find a copy, grab it! I did!

Don't Buy This CD.,

This is a great CD, but all these tracks are on The Doors, In Concert. Buy In Concert and you will get a lot more for your money.

EXCELLENT Live & ephemera,

Of course, I purchased the album in the mid-eighties, because the vocalist in my band wanted to "do Gloria" the way it was performed on "Alive She Cried." NO problem, and "Alive" quickly became one of MY favorite records, too. Strange, though, because I had never really dug the Doors (refer to my "review" of their "Elektra/Best Of"), I always thought Jim Morrison was a tad "over the top," or just too..."way out there, Pastor" (for further elaboration on THAT opinion, listen to the Firesign Theater's "Don't Crush That Dwarf," and you'll see what I mean...). Still...Manzerek, Krieger, and Densmore were simply consummate musicians (they'd better've been to "acompany" Morrison), and the coupling of "Texas Radio" and "Love Me Two Times" is brilliant. And I believe this was the very first - well, "legal," anyway - live recording of "Light My Fire." Although, honestly, I can't listen to Morrison on this thing without hysterical laughter, even to this day, because of his..."babbling." To wit: some examples being "...How old are yew/where'd yew go t' school? uh-huh," "It was the greatest night of my life, although I still had not found a wife," and the immortal "Yew can pick your teeth with a New York joint." Oh, and as a "journalist," myself, the liner notes to "Alive," as penned by Benjamin Edmunds, are simply brilliant - almost worth the price of admission!
