5.0 out of 5 stars Get Some More, December 16, 2002
Finally, what all of us Snot fans have been waiting for, the Snot live album, the CD we all knew just had to be released. I was one of the unfortunates who never got to see Snot live, so this CD was a really special listen for me. All of Snot's energy is captured perfectly on this CD. Snot rages through their best tracks on here. Lynn Strait (R.I.P.) confirms on this CD that he really was one of the best frontmen of the 90's. He sings, screams and bellows with severe passion. The band is also in top-form, never faultering once. All of the greatest are here: Absent, Stoopid, I Jus' Lie, plus a studio track, "Choose What," which you may recognize as the music for Serj's "Starlit Eyes" from the Strait Up tribute. You can tell that Serj used this version as a blueprint for his, seeing how both vocalists eerily resemble each other on their respective tracks. Also included on this CD is an extensive enhanced portion with the rarely seen video for "Stoopid" and a live video of "Joy Ride," plus some other hidden stuff. If you already own "Get Some," then Get This. It is the perfect companion and will put a smile on every Snot fan's face.

5.0 out of 5 stars Now the Circle is complete, August 16, 2002
By sc_demandred (Irvine, CA USA) - See all my reviews
I know there are going to be people out there who buy "Alive" and don't like it. They're going to think that it sounds choppy, and that Lynn's vocals don't sound real good, and that he drops words, blah blah blah.

For me, this is the one thing that was missing from "Get Some," while the studio album rocked my world, it didn't capture the insane energy of their live shows. And I feel great pity for all the Snot fans who never got to see them live; you missed the greatest show on earth. I must've seen them ten or fifteen times from their earliest stages of inception in Santa Barbara, and every show was an amazing experience.

You had Lynn talking to the crowd and cracking jokes, Mikey making his goofy faces, Tumor glowering at every one. Everyone who's seen a Snot show knows what I mean. Remember how they all used to jump at a crucial moment in the song? Remember how, rather than bending forward like some vocalists, Lynn would lean his shoulders back, shove out his belt and roar?

I've seen no band (from Nine Inch Nails to Ministry to NOFX) that had such relentless and charismatic energy on stage. "Alive" brings a little of that to the uninitiated, and a whole LOT of nostalgia to us veterans.

Musically, there's not much new here. There are some funny moments with Lynn talking on stage (the intros to "Tecato" and "Box" are particularly cool, and you can tell he was a master at getting the crowd whipped up and into the show. The live versions of "Snot," "I Jus' Lie," "Absent," and "Tecato" are excellent, but if you like Snot, you won't find anything to dislike on here.

The final track is something that I didn't expect; it's an unreleased track called "Choose what?". Owners of the "Strait Up" tribute album will recognize the music that Serj (SOAD) chose to write his piece "Starlit Eyes" to. It's haunting in a way, to listen to this song and hear that while the content was different, each vocalist sang the song in a similar style. It's also very sad to listen to Lynn sing to the music and then wonder: what would that album have sounded like had he lived? Something tells me Snot would be main stage at Ozzfest this year, and occupying their rightful place in the pantheon of new metal gods.

RIP Lynn Strait 1968 - 1998. We miss you Lynn, we will never forget you

4.0 out of 5 stars Snot, July 28, 2003
By Drake "glassjawslipknot" (N. Logan, UT United States) - See all my reviews
This band was the savior of music for me when i heard them in Cali. It was sad to realize that another one of their albums wouldnt come out. This album was ok.

1. Intro: Just the crowd cheering and 2 or 3 symbol beats. Doesnt deserve a rating.

2. Snot 8/10: The intro to this song is great. You can tell how hyped the crowd is. Lynn sometimes messes the lyrics up but you can still hear his signiture sound in it, i love the background singing. I like when he gets the crowd into it. His rap part is good, better then i thought he could pull it off.

3. Joy Ride 10/10: I actually dont really like this song on get some but on this live version it sounds perfect. This one gets me hyped up. Couldnt have been done better.

4. I Just Lie 8/10: "This ones about your old lady." Great intro, then they stop and get the crowed hyped. Sings the verse ok. Great background singing like always. 3rd verse kinda [was bad] because of the way he sings it. I like the end though. Its violent.

5. Stooped 9/10: Reference to HedPe. I like his singing in the beginning. Great intro. He does cut lyrics but it sounds good in this one.

6. The Box 8/10: My favorite song on Get Some. Great intro. He alters lyrics, its sounds ok. The chorus is awesome. He cuts lyrics sometimes. Goes right into the next song.

7. Snooze Button 9/10: Yum i love this song. Yes, he does a good intro. Does his rap not like the album so much but it sounds great. Pauses before the chorus to get the crowed hyped. He doesnt scream the chorus like he does on the album but it sounds good.

8. Abscent 10/10: This song just gets me hyped up. His voice sounds just like it does on the cd. It sounds amazing. He cuts out lyrics though. Chorus is amazing. My favorite one on this album.

9. Deadfall 10/10: I like this version, it gets you hyped up. Its to fast for lynn to mess around with the lyrics which is a bonus.

10. Get Some 10/10: He messes around with the lyrics but it sounds good. I love it when he screams DIED. Chorus is great. I think he takes this song seriously and it shows. The end is executed very nicely.

11. Tecato: He speaks in another language saying "You Know Its Coming Holmes" Dedicating the song to Soulfly. I think he is talking about the killer of whoever killed someone close to Max Cavalera.

12. Grea bonus track
