This is a great Live E.P. by one of my favorite bands. The sound quality is great the performances are unbelievable.A must for any fan.The only downside is the shaped disc it looks cool but you can't play it in your stereo or car.So you can only play it in your discman. But other than that its a great buy.Hail Dimmu Borgir!!

Nice Little Collectible,
By A Customer
This review is from: Alive in Torment (Audio CD)
Alive in Torment is a nice little collectible from one of the best and most popular black metal bands, Dimmu Borgir. There's a pretty good career overview for an EP of this size with tracks from the last three full length albums, a key track or two from each. The production is in your face. You can feel the heaviness of the guitars, the ruthless kit pummels from Nick and the majestic keyboard touches. Vortex's voice doesn't hold up that great on this recording, but it sounded just like the CD when I saw them live in 2001. Shagrath is a good showman. What would've been better is a full-length live album. This recording of live material doesn't do a highly visual live band like Dimmu Borgir justice. But, it is a nice little addition to any fan's collection. The cd itself is shaped like a skull and should play in most personal cd players. Get it before it stops getting pressed.

Good, but there are no new songs,
By Morgan Kelly (New York) - See all my reviews

This is a great live cd featuring songs from their cd Spiritual Black Dimensions. All the songs are played very well, and I can bear witness that it captured all of Dimmu's live energy fairly well. But if you want a real good live album from Dimmu, track down the Spiritual Darkness: Alive In Europe bootleg. It's from just before they released SBD, and features a greater collection of songs, including the rare Inn I Evigehetens Morke.

It's pretty obvious that this disc screams "collectors item". Prior to buying I tried to get some info about the quality of sound as it is a live album and live recordings can sometimes be pretty hit and miss. Overall I was quite impressed with the tightness of the musical performance, however some of the backbeats get lost in the mix in places but the tunes still rock. The only other real downside is that you miss the atmosphere provided by the orchestral parts on the studio albums. Other than that it met my expectations. In my opinion it's definitely worth the ten bucks, especially if you're a fan. Good band, good tunes, good performace.

Great EP!,
This review is from: Alive in Torment (Audio CD)
I thought "Purinania" was a good song, but was really turned off by the cover of the album it came from. Enter this live EP. It's a great sampler of Dimmu Borgir's stuff, and is really good for new fans hesitant to buy the regular albums. The CD is shaped like a skull, adding to the "coolness" factor, and all the songs rock! The only problem I have with it is that the drums are a bit too intense, drowning out the guitar parts. If the drums were mixed at a lower level, then I'd give this five stars. h

Good Live Recordings... But a Rather Pointless Release,
This review is from: Alive in Torment (Audio CD)
The performances and sound quality on this live EP are actually very good. I have a few beefs though. For starters what exactly is the point of a live EP? The album clocks in at about 25 minutes. Why not just release a live album? Or at least include a new studio track as an incentive. Also why in God's name did they put "Puritania" on this? That is positively the worst track from "Puritanical Euphoric Misanthopia" and one of the worst (if not the worst) tracks they have ever done. Also, where is the guitar solo in "The Insight and the Catharsis"? If Galder can't handle the solo's why not get a better guitarist. As such this album is for Dimmu fanatics only. Newcomers and moderate fans should buy "Stormblast" (original version), "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant", "Spiritual Black Dimensions" and "Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia".
