5.0 out of 5 stars Old-School Trio
This album is truly a gift to all fans of the Trio, as well as being a great introduction to the band for those who have never heard of them before. It collects the material from the early, uber rare seven inch records and throws in a few b-sides for good measure.

3.0 out of 5 stars jewel case broken
CD is great, Music awesome (but I already knew that)
the seller stated it was "used Good", however the jewel case hinges were broken and the CD could not even stay in the jewel case anymore. The seller should have labeled this "used acceptable"

5.0 out of 5 stars Old-School Trio, April 9, 2002
This review is from: Alkaline Trio (Audio CD)
This album is truly a gift to all fans of the Trio, as well as being a great introduction to the band for those who have never heard of them before. It collects the material from the early, uber rare seven inch records and throws in a few b-sides for good measure.

That being said, allow me to say the following: don't label this album until you have heard it. The "emo" label, which is currently the buzz word to throw around, has been slapped on this band repeatedly. It may be a positive thing to some, and a negative thing to others. Emo seems to be the proverbial "flavor of the week" these days, but Alkaline Trio are much more than your standard pop-punk fare. They are not to be lumped in with MTV chic bands like Saves the Day and New Found Glory, but instead are reminiscient of Jawbreaker or Braid in their heyday. Their lyrics are much closer to the earnest, heart-felt words of the originators of emo than they are to the words of the current batch of pretentious pin-up boys.

If you can appreciate a good listen about broken hearts and drinks, buy this album immediately. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mix a little of this and a little of that, October 29, 2004

Alkaline trio is one of the grestest bands out on the scene today and unfortunately this is their greatest effort to date even though they have put out very good records since i dont think any will top this one. Mix one part Jawbreaker, one part Morissey and one part misfits and you have the alkaline trio. Heartbreak, bloody murder and drinking basically just like any other 20 something american. Best songs are: "goodbye forever", "getting over you", "97" , "my friend peter", and "bleeder".

5.0 out of 5 stars Best CD ever, November 11, 2003
This review is from: Alkaline Trio (Audio CD)
This CD, before I begin, captures what Alkaline Trio is all about. Drinking, love, heartbreak, with scrappy, hard punk-rock style. With their latest releases, FHTI and Good Mourning, they've lost some of their spunk. Matt Skiba is a genius of songwriting, and my idol I might add. The songs he writes on this record, which are from earlier EP's, are absolutely mind-blowing. He grabs hold of you throughout every song, my favorites being the opener "Goodbye Forever" and "'97." Actually, I love them all. Dan, the bassist/vocalist, should not be overlooked. His songs, which include "This Is Getting Over You" and powerful "I Lied My Face Off" are excellent songs, some of his best. In "I Lied," the guitar riff is unbelievable, and every element of the song is perfect.
So, to wrap things up, Alkaline Trio is the best band you'll find these days. Buy this album first, for it shows where they started and what they are all about. Not to overlook the new material, for Skiba and Adriano are still at their best in all their releases, and always will be. I'd like to end on the final lyric from "97" which shows exactly how Skiba feels:
"I don't deserve this..."

5.0 out of 5 stars Alkaline Trio at their best, October 13, 2002
This review is from: Alkaline Trio (Audio CD)
This is a collection of early releases from Alk3. It is amazing & if you haven't discovered them until FHTI you are missing a big chapter of this band. This is a sound much different not as well recorded but gives a more feeling of just how powerful they are in concert without all the vocal overdubs. This c.d. is a must have for any fan, but especially new ones to re-discover the band.

This isn't going to be a long review - there's only so much I can put into words. I own all of the trio's cds and this is the best. If you buy only one CD by them, make it this one. It is the best!

5.0 out of 5 stars Big in Chicago, September 16, 2000

Yes, if you ask anyone involved in the scene in Chicago, they will tell you that the Alkaline Trio are local pop-punk gods. This new album self-titled has proven that the trio has progressed immensly. Though their lyrics can be depressing, most can relate, and the rockin' songs help anyone deal with their own problems in an aggressive yet promoting way. This should be one everyones "to-buy" list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful Lyrics, July 12, 2000
By
This review is from: Alkaline Trio (Audio CD)
This cd is full of incredible lyrics, some of them funny, and some really make you think (I know that's a really cheesy line). My favorite song on the album is "goodbye forever", i've listened to that song maybe a thousand times and I'm still not sick of it. I would recommend this cd to anyone even if you don't listen to punk.

5.0 out of 5 stars not a travesty, June 12, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Alkaline Trio (Audio CD)
This album is great. If you are into alkaline trio at all, or have heard of them...buy it now! however, unlike some,i still enjoy their new cd's. I don't understand how anyone can say that "their new darkness is fake". who ever said that their lyrics had to be dark in the first place? all bands evolve in some way, shape,or form and thats simply what alkaline trio has done.instead of trying to "see past" their newer material, why not just take some time to adapt to it. sorry for ranting, i just wanted to clear that up a little so that people don't get the wrong idea about the band because they have always been great and i have a feeling that they always will be.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best one ever!!!!, October 19, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Alkaline Trio (Audio CD)
for me this is the best cd i'd ever have. my favorite tracks in "Alkaline Trio" are "Goodbye Forever", "For Your Lungs Only", "Bleeder", but actually love all of them. the songs in this cd are actually from: "For Your Lungs Only", "Sun Dials", "I Lied My Face Off", and some other unreleased songs. so if you can't find alk3's earlier singles, just get this one.
