the lighter side of dating, August 12, 2002
This review is from: All About Chicks: A Man's Guide to Dating in the 21st Century (Plastic Comb)
i have bought several dating books, and the only thing i have learned is that nothing works across the board. women are so different and varied depending on social class, upbringing, geography, religion, and other factors that it's really hard to nail anything. this book attempts to isolate personalities based on names and appearances, which is probably the closest i've seen to accurate yet, since as the author says these are "conscious decisions". based on his initial clues based on things like hairstyles, clothes and even glasses, the author says to evaluate objectively. i have to admit, it is better than going in blind. at least you've got something to talk about! the author seems to have done his homework, having some kind of opinion on "chicks" of almost any size, color, creed, or hair color. his "weird glasses" and "short hair" descriptions are right on! the author offers many ways to break the ice, but he missed the best one of them all: use THIS BOOK! my friends and i have brought this book to bars and women cannot resist asking what it says about them in it. we've met several ladies this way! if you're looking for the magic pill, give up now, it just doesn't exist. overall, this is a really thought provoking book. dating can be depressing, so i'm glad this was much lighter than all of the others.

Amusing, yet surprisingly informative!, September 7, 2001

First of all, this Fresh guy pulls no punches. The book's style resembles sitting in a neighborhood bar and having a light-hearted chat about women over several drinks. But that's what makes this book so much fun! The author has done his homework, as he details several nuances that I missed on my own. His 'name analysis' section was my favorite part; my friends and I now actively search for women named 'Kimberly.' Great tips for places for dates and sneaky little things you can do to break the ice and come off looking like one of those cute movie situations. There's often irreverent information in this book you just won't find anywhere else. I originally gave this book 4 stars, but now that I'm thinking about it, I haven't enjoyed a book this much in a long while. We're passing it around the office and the women both love it and hate it. In my book, anything that evokes this kind of response deserves 5 stars!

I bought this book and it is ok. Mr. fresh gives some good advice but it lacks alot of detail. He says to go up to woman and do what is called a "controlled conflict". This is basically pissing a girl off then winning her back. Maybe in PA where he is from this might work, but in socal this would get you into some serious trouble. He also says to catch up on current events and"chick shows" so you will have good convo material. He also says not to spoil woman. I went through it in about 30 minutes. I am still looking for a good dating book. Good luck fellas.
