Honestly, this video is similiar in style to a documentary. However, it does have voice overs for the construction machines and there is a guy called Hard Hat Harry who shows two boys around various construction sites. He also narrates on construction projects they are supposedly viewing as the viewer is.The quality of the film is "B", there are no super special effects or well-known credits associated with big budget films or even children's productions for that matter. Nevertheless, my boys really enjoy watching the video and always point out which "machine" is their favorite. It's also been educational because they have learned the names of different construction vehicles and have corrected me on occasion! High tech video or not, learning is always a plus. I can understand why some children may not appreciate such a video because there isn't characters dancing or singing. There are no vibrant colors that will pop brillantly from the screen. If your child likes pointing to trucks and construction equipment while the family is out drivng around, then this is a video for him or her. However, it they prefer Barney, The Wiggles or Bob the Builder, you may want to reconsider.

What a variety!!,

My three year old son loves bulldozers and any other construction equipment. He had a bulldozer video that was his favorite until I bought this one. He absolutely loves it. The sound quality isn't the greatest, but that doesn't matter to him. All that matters is seeing the different construction equipment in action. There's a huge variety to see too. Some are ones that I've never seen before like the underground "Mole" which digs huge tunnels for like subways. The box reads for ages 2 to 80 and its true. My husband and myself found it quite interesting and entertaining. Hard Hat Harry does get a little silly at times, but you have to remember it is based for children. I highly recommend this video if you have a little construction guy or girl at home. Who knows...maybe you'll end up like us and enjoy watching it yourself.

Extremely bad print!,

Received it yesterday. It is recorded in LP mode. The copy has both picture and sound problems. There is noise on the picture that cannot be tracked away (top of the line Sony VCR). It is like a home video recopied 5 times using bad equipment. The contents are fine but do not deserve a rating of even one star because of these problems.

As far as construction equipment videos go, this has the most action and the most variety of all. It is a must have for anyone with children that love big machines.

Both of my boys, now ages 3 & 5yrs, absolutely love this video and Hard Hat Harry, the Construction Genie who takes them on to great adventures. My 3yr old even thinks dump trucks can talk! This video takes kids right onto construction sites where they can see the big truck actually working. And Harry reminds them about safety all through the video. A must for any kid who loves trucks!

although the construction facts he endlessly spews are undoubtedly accurate, the handsome genie otherwise known as hard hat harry is terribly boring and indescribably dry, not funny at all-- the world might be a better place if he would go back inside the old construction thermos from which he came, at least for a few thousand more years.. ..stick with the Road Construction Ahead/Farm Country Ahead series, even Construction Foreman Dave of There Goes a Bulldozer fame has more style and panache (and that's saying a lot) ..don't believe me ?? then trust my two-year old, he's hit the eject button on hard hat harry each time !

Fascinating for kid + Interesting for parent!,

Our two year old boy loves this. I've occasionally tried to get him to watch something different, just for a change, but after about a minute he'll request the "machine movie". Inevitably you find yourself watching some of it too, and both my wife and I learned some interesting things about construction equipment. Compared to the I Love Big Machines series, Hard Hat Harry is a lot better than the kid who narrates I Love Big Machines (part 2, anyway), the dialog is better and more natural, and there's actually a decent song in this, unlike those songs by that whiny voiced guy in the I Love series.

Hard Hat Harry still has it.,

My dad digged up this video from a box of videos that were my little brothers when he was little. I don't know what it is but my 2 year old son adores this video. He has learned how to operate the VCR just so he can rewind it and watch it again. I remember my brother had the same love for it when he was little. I can see why some kids may not be to interested in it because it is really just alot of video taping of trucks with Hard Hat Harry and two kids that chime in. I guess you just have to get it and see but if I am reviewing this on what my 2 year thinks of it it would get more than 5 stars.

Hard Hat Harry is my 20 month old son's hero. He asks to watch this video over and over and over. My whole family can quote nearly the entire script. It's informative, entertaining and hypnotic to toddlers who like explosions, backhoes, dumptrucks, road construction equipment and lots of action. I highly recommend it to any parent who needs a 30 minute break. I gave it four instead of five stars because it's not the best production quality I've ever seen and the acting is not Oscar quality, but that doesn't matter at all to my son.
