5.0 out of 5 stars If you sew and love it, this book is ... wow!, December 19, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: All About Wool : Fabric Dictionary and Swatchbook (Fabric Reference Ser.; Vol. 3) (Plastic Comb)
I couldn't believe it. I've been sewing all my life and I picked up Julie Parker's book about wool and discovered a whole new world -- or at least a whole new way of looking at my favorite hobby. How did I ever do without this? I'm ordering the other two -- on cotton and silk -- and can't wait for the fourth. Write faster, Julie Parker!

One could read all day out of a book and still not be able to visualize how to identify different fabrics. Texture is so much more important. I don't sew but I do buy vintage clothes for my prop company. This book was very helpful. The only thing I think would be better if all the fabrics except the tweeds, etc. were the same color.

5.0 out of 5 stars An incredible book, August 15, 2000

This is an absolutely indispensible book for costume designers and seamstresses alike. It has an incredibly easy format to read loaded with pertinent information about the fabrics as well as the actual fabric samples. I am studying to become a costume designer and realized that my fabric vocabulary was very limited. I was overjoyed to find this book and am loving it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Valuable Resource for a Wool Enthusiast, September 18, 2010

This review is from: All About Wool : Fabric Dictionary and Swatchbook (Fabric Reference Ser.; Vol. 3) (Plastic Comb)
Years ago I acquired Julie Parker's "All About Silk" and "All About Cotton." At the time I was teaching advanced sewing for girls (and one guy) who were competing in the "Make It Yourself With Wool" Competition [now called the "Make It With Wool" Competition] and really wished that she would do such a book on wool. Obviously she did but I only recently learned about it. As soon as I did I immediately ordered a copy even though it was more than twice the $29.95 I paid for the silk and cotton books. I stopped working with kids for the MIWW Competition for quite a few years but have recently started doing it again. I grew up in Canada where wonderful wools were readily available to me and therefore learned to love it at a young age. Unfortunately, to most people, wool means scratchy flannel or thick coating. But with this resource you can show them how much more it is. This is particularly helpful when stores [at least in Arizona] carry such a limited selection of wool and also when you are dubious about buying wool yardage on the internet because you don't have any real idea what it is like. I had quite a few swatches of my own from over the years but there were so many different varieties of wool in the book that I did not have. What a joy it was to touch them and read about them. And what a wonderful teaching aid! Thank you, Ms. Parker, from a home economist/sewing teacher/wool-a-holic.
