The quality of these All American canners are absolutely top of the line and easy to work with. Once purchased, you have a canner for life. No gasket seals to be replacing. Wonderful. I have one already and am getting a second so I can tag team between the two when canning this summer. You can't beat this piece of kitchen equipment. This is the top of the line for canners.

5.0 out of 5 stars DURABLE LONG TERM PURCHASE July 13, 2008
By GU
This canner is awesome. It will last my family for generations. If you want something that will can large amounts of food for a long time this is it. It is rather large and very heavy but that is what I wanted. If you want something smaller be prepared to be able to do less at one time. It just barely fits between the oven and the microwave so I went out into the garage and used the turkey fryer to can. All of the heat stays outside. I called customer service afer I chipped the handle and they took care of it by sending a new one out. They also answered a long list of questions that I had about canning without showing any impatience. I am very happy with it. Thanks

5.0 out of 5 stars Pricey and Worth It March 30, 2007
I have used this canner quite a bit with absolutely excellent results. I'm already saving up for the 40 qt. model. I simply can't praise this canner enough. It's rare to see this kind of quality of design and manufacturing.

Once you own your jars, home canned in cheaper and definitely of better quality than store bought. This canner is the best investment a cook can make.

I raise my own organic meat chickens (in the suburbs, no less) and knew that eventually I would have to get my own pressure canner to take advantage of the stock that can be made from the leftover bones after cutting up the dressed birds for the freezer. I did several hours of online research and people who really liked this canner reasoned that it was built like a tank and would (or already did) last for several several generations. It was also the only pressure canner that all the little Amish cookware shops sold when I shopped in Holmes county. Besides, I could do 14 quarts at a time, cutting my canning time in half!

After consulting my husband (this was a considerable purchase for us), we agreed that it would be worth it to get something that would last a really long time and not have to replace any gaskets and we were willing to take the risk since we currently owned a 7 year old Whirlpool Super Capacity 465 glass top stove. The stove is getting slow to heat pots and the oven runs about 50 degrees low and we'd really enjoy upgrading to a gas range someday so we agreed to be really careful and see if we could use the pressure canner on it. We also agreed that though the canner can also be used as a boiling water bath canner, We wouldn't use it for that since I already have a large stockpot for that purpose and the additional weight might push the glass top over the edge. We purchased the canner at Lehman's Hardware for $269, the tax and gas to get there made the savings over amazon a wash but I needed it right away.

I studied the user's manuel a day in advance and studied it thoroughly. This thing strongly resembles a bomb and I didn't want it exploding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good purchase January 15, 2010

This pressure canner is every bit as sturdy as other folks have stated in their online reviews. For those who state that the lid "sticks" a little, I found it to be very good advice when someone stated that they put a little petroleum jelly around the lid before locking it down to prevent anything from sticking - it worked. Other than that issue, please know that this canner will last a lifetime. Wanna keep buying canned goods from foreign countries around world, or from canneries where the packing process is "questionable?" Or do you wanna just go ahead and can your own fresh stuff? To me it is a no-brainer. Don't be scared to use this canner. It looks big and bad, but it runs like a baby if you follow the instructions. Worth the purchase, for sure! By the way, I am a first-time canner who is not considered genius at this stuff. If I can can with this canner, so can you!

Very happy with the cooker. I use it for cooking and canning. The included instructions to do both are easy to follow. Decided to pay more and get the heavy duty cooker that I'll probably hand down to my son and he to his children. Also love the made in US.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product September 25, 2012

Using this product is easy. The no gasket seal is great. I rubbed a little olive oil on the sealing surface and was only somewhat careful in keeping an even gap and there was no leaking. This canner is really big, so it takes a long time to come up to pressure. With water in the bottom already boiling and the jar contents hot packed, it took 10 minutes to reach 15 psi. It takes even longer to come back down from pressure. That being said, I feel some of the cooking times are off. My carrots ended up mushy. It makes sense why: If you wait until full pressure is reached to start timing, but then can't remove the contents until all pressure is relieved everything gets overcooked. The whole time there is pressure in the can the food will be cooking at hotter than boiling temps. At my altitude the carrots should have a 30 min cooking time (43 minutes according to USDA). There is 30 minutes spent above 1 atmosphere simply pressurizing and depressurizing the canner, but you are not supposed to start timing until the weighted gauge sputters.

If you are wondering what size to go with, it comes down to money and muscle. I bought the 30 quart thinking about the future when my garden will be bigger then I will need the extra canner space, but already my carrots filled 8 quarts, and had I not bought the 30 quart that would have been a second processing batch just because of one jar. Also the 30 quart is heavy and tall. I have a glass cook top so I have to can outside on a propane stove. Moving a loaded 30 quart canner from inside to outside takes a strong back or a couple of people.

This is clearly a very well made and well thought out product.
