Red white and blue?,
By
This review is from: All-American Crochet Afghans (Hardcover)
I was afraid that these afghans might be all red white and blue and I would need to change all the color schemes. I was happy to find that they were not and actually had some very nice color schemes that I would never have thought of and will use. I espeacially like the "Surf & Sand" It appears to be a tunisan crochet where you add and drop colors that give it its beautiful color. I cannot get over the "Floral Parade" and I will be making it just as pictured! These two patterns alone make the book worth its price!

Lately, have started collectiong granny squares. EBay & Etsy have proven places to find granny squares that are made by others & then sold for the customer who hasn't the time to make all the individual sqaures. But, maybe she is a person who possibly could have the time & experience to put them together to make their own aghans. That is my intention. I never thought there would be so many different sizes of granny squares "out there"! I can only crochet a chain. My late mother used to crochet doilies & pineapple designs were her favorite. A friend has volunteered, when I am ready, to show me how to do single crochet joining of the squares I have collected. I have a couple of charitable causes I want to give some afghans to, as fund-raising raffle prizes. To that end, at least for this year, I have purchased three completed afghans on eBay for the next events. "My" parish church, St. John's in Gloucester has a Christmas Fair the weekend before Thanksgiving & The Boston Bluegrass Union has a Joe Val Bluegrass Festival, President's Day weekend, every year, next one being 2012. One thing that occurs during at least the last 5 festivals is something called Kid's Academy. Lots of attendees to bluegrass festivals are also pickers of various instruments of bluegrass music. Sometimes, instrument makers donate instruments to raffle for the small monies given the instructors for the Kid's Academy. But, what if a person wants to support the Kid's Academy & doesn't want to study an instument? To that end, I am hoing, by donating an afghan or two, maybe other attendees will "follow suit" & likewise, donate a qilt or afghan for the cause.
This book has some nice looking projects in it & yes, a couple of granny square afghan patterns. Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes, I think so.
