Music Lover (LA California, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: All American Music (Audio CD)
I just picked up a copy of the newest release from Jamie Reno, ALL AMERICAN MUSIC and I am totally enjoying it! Upon opening the CD, I noticed what a wonderful layout; everything is first rate, what a great looking CD and musical surprise! And if you check out the credits, it will have your head spinning! Such incredible artists as Suzy Bogguss, Ricky Skaggs, Dickey Betts and the list just goes on and on. You won't believe this cast of thousands; Jamie Reno is absolutely playing with the legends of modern Rock and Country music. And now for the material that Jamie has picked for his third release, an incredible selection of tunes! Most all the songs are penned by Jamie, but now and then he does a little co-writing, and it's superb! The first cut, "Summer Moon" a duet with Suzy Bogguss, a light airy America feel. Sweet harmonies and terrific soaring melody lines, extremely unique, but at the same time, feels like going home and revisiting familiar places from your younger years.
Moving on to the song entitled, "Boston Blues", Jamie gets a little help from Randy Meisner, another giant in the 80's Country Rock vein. It just doesn't get much better than this, sounds like an Eagle's song, but done Jamie's style, nice stuff!! On "Goin' to California", Jamie and Suzy cover a standard by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant and just nail it. Jamie knows how to cover standards as well as writing his own material. You can see that Mr. Reno is influenced by the greats; you will be pleasantly surprised by this new release and happy that you too, have found this excellent writer and vocalist, have a good trip...............

3.0 out of 5 stars Mostly catchy, May 29, 2006

I can't say these are the most creative compositions or even the most impressive performances, but the tunes have a smooth, simple, feel-good quality to them that you've got to like. "Emerald City," in my humble opinion, is lyrically absurd. There is a pretty decent cover of "Goin' to California" by Page and Plant.
