Gr. 4-7. Quilt making is a very American craft, and this book takes that concept further by offering young people projects with a U.S. slant to them. An American eagle banner, inspired by Civil War quilts; an American flag wall hanging; and a traditional Log Cabin quilt are among the most patriotic of the projects in this volume in the Kids Can Do It series. Directions are clear, but novices will definitely need adult supervision when cutting templates (which can be found at the end of the book), steaming, ironing, and, of course, sewing and quilting. That said, the projects, all in red, white, and blue, have patriotic appeal, and since they range from easy to fairly difficult, there's something for everyone. See Gibbons, below, for ways to use quilts in the classroom.
