Mystifying illustrations,
By
This review is from: All Around Me I See (Paperback)
My child really likes this book, so I find myself having to read it about 30 times a day. While I think the text is really great, I do have an issue with the illustrations. Generally the pictures are wonderfully vibrant and rich with details and colors. However, about half way through the story (as told through the illustrations) it get's notably weird. My partner and I joke that the girl (in the story) must have inadvertently eaten some magic mushrooms and spends the rest of the story on some trippy shroom-dream. What is more, in this dream state she seems to have aged about 50 years (perhaps she was hit with an ugly stick, who knows, it's just weird). My real issue here is that as someone who has to read this book a lot, the (quite frankly) annoying/mystifying illustrations really throw me for a loop and as a result I dislike the book. This is really a tragedy, because the text and first few illustrations are really great.

Imaginative and Fun Book for You and Toddler,
This review is from: All Around Me I See (Paperback)
My child just got this book for his first birthday among many other books. This one sticks out for me and him. It is very imaginative, even the illustrations convey a sense of exploration. The story is very simple, but different. We both love pointing out how certain illustrations show up on multiple pages. For example, a frog might show up on more pages than one. If you want a book that is different and not same old, same old - buy this book and I think you'll be pleased.

Beautiful illustrations. Thought-provoking lines on each one that will help me and my granddaughter begin a discussion about what else we can find through it and the illustrations. I had expected more of a story line or more thoughts expressed, but I like this just fine. It leaves the rest of the creative thoughts to come from us.
