A really good masterpiece by Oasis,

I bought this single and I was very anxious to have it. Now that I do have it, I am very pleased with it. It's the best single I have ever heard! The Fame, Street Fighting Man, Flashbax and of course All Around the World are really good tunes, of the kind that you'll find yourself whistling them at every moment!

The most ludicrously overproduced single of the 90s is also one of the best. In the hands of anyone but the brothers Gallagher it would have been turned to treacly schlock, but All Around the World is triumphant, glorious, and powerful. The B-sides - none of which appear on The Masterplan - are also excellent, especially the soaring The Fame. The cover of Street Fighting Man is also a highlight.

Amazing! How do these guys do it. Three great albums (plus the b-sides album 'the masterplan' which is one of the best pieces of music ever), and 14 great singles. This is possibly the best in terms of a-side and b-side content. Street fighting man is a classic song and this is a fine cover but 'the fame' and 'flashbax' are easily worthy of being a-sides. I just hope 'standing on the shoulders of giants' is as good. Oasis- the greatest band ever!

One can only question how a mere mortal can possess such great amounts of musical talents. The man in question is Noel Gallagher, songwriter for Oasis.Third single off their fantastic third album "Be Here Now", "All Around The World" is truly a musical epic. The length of the single fits the epic word in every sense, as it covers 9 minutes plus of time. But the heights that AATW covers expands the meaning of epic. From the quiet and gentle strumming of the guitar to the phenomenal heights it reaches with the crashes of guitar, drums, blinding vocals and strings, AATW is such an aural attack on the senses that one can only whimper in pure ectasy. It's anthemic feel and all it gives leaves it's opposition dead. It's string sections leaves "Bitter Sweet Symphony" sounding like a school orchestra, it's triumphant feel gives any self help guide sounding pessimistic. It cries of hope, of joy, of fun, of OASIS! Taken off the shine off this song is the constant Beatles comparison. This is not the case. It possess the same feel, but it takes it to another level, it is purely Oasis, not the Beatles. Pure and simple, this song is tops. The most perfect effort that Oasis has offered so far. In fact, I'll take it to another step to say this is the song they play in heaven! I know, since I have had my breathe taken away by this song, dying, and reaching Pearly Gates...

A Must-Have For Fans,
This review is from: All Around the World (Audio CD)
It's a cryin' shame that this is in the "Shame It's Out-of-Print" File, because this is one of the very best maxi-singles from a band that has put out a lot of 'em. In addition to the single itself, there are three non-album tracks, two of them must-have's for fans:
"The Fame," with Noel on vocals, is among the group's very best songs, with the signature rollicking, fuzzing guitars and a sing-a-long, wall-of-sound chorus. I can't believe this track was left off "Be Here Now," but then I'm also not sure what song I'd cut to make room for it. And as much as I love the Rolling Stones, the cover of "Street Fighting Man" may well be better than the original. It is, at the very least, a fantastic, rip-roaring modernization of a classic. If you're a fan of the Gallaghers & Co. and you don't have this, track it down somewhere. It's worth it.

'In my well-paid opinion...',

This review is from: All Around the World (Audio CD)
The CD single for the overwrought but pleasant enough "All Around the World" brought us three much more delicious tunes from Oasis, one of which is a Rolling Stones classic. Thrashing their weight around with confidence and an eagerness to please musically, the guys in Oasis were blistering and unstoppable in the mid 1990s. And the band's B-sides often superceded its radio singles. Such is the case with the rollicking "The Fame," where Noel Gallagher brashly and aptly sings about the perils of fame (mostly the accompanying drug use). Smooth as ice from one song to the next, the following "Flashbax" is as equally reflective but not quite as charged, with unique lyrics again sung by Noel. ("I spend my time sitting on a fence with a maid of mine, trying to write the line of a story.") The middle portion of the song even features super-tuneful whistling, giving it a unique twist.
Like the other great songs on Be Here Now, this CD is loudly produced and unapologetic, with top-notch songs. To make sure that the brawling festivities are complete, Liam Gallagher shows up for vocal contributions on the closing song, the Rolling Stones' "Street Fighting Man." Mixed with maxed-out production that ranks as an 11 on a 10-notch volume knob and loud-as-can-be guitars, Liam's screech gives the classic tune brand-new life that Mick and the boys would be proud of. Was it presumptuous for Oasis to cover the Stones? Perhaps. Does the band make it work? Absolutely. With its harder-edged Beatles-esque melody, gosh-we-love-the-planet lyrics and over-the-top manner, "All Around the World" isn't a bad song -- but then again, it's not surprising it was annoyingly featured in AT&T commercials years later due to a generic, please-the-masses vibe. For real Oasis, delve into the other three songs on this surprisingly strong disc.

The best single off the Be Here Now album.,
By Damon Navas-Howard (Santa Rosa, CA USA) - See all my reviews

Just when I was starting to think the b-sides off of the Be Here Now singles only had one great song("Going Nowhere", "Stay Young") on each single and the other b-sides were average, Oasis release their last single off BHN "All Around The World" and we get a classic Oasis single. "All Around The World"-like "Champagne Supernova" and "The Masterplan"-is an epic over the top glorius piece of music. From its sing along lyrics to its lushious strings to it's top of the peak ending with Liam simply singing "na na na na". "All Around The World" was one of the best songs off of BHN. It is just pure magic that Noel Gallagher holds in his hand. The b-sides on this single are: "The Fame", "Flashbax", and a cover of The Rolling Stones' "Street Fighting Man". "The Fame" shows us Noel Gallagher's thoughts on fame while Oasis were on the top of the world. The song feautres loud guitars and an upbeat tone that you can even dance to. "Flashbax" transports us from the present moment of Oasis to memory lane. The tune is laid back and is like part 2 of "D'yer Wanna Be A Spaceman?". Last is the cover of The Rolling Stones hit "Street Fighting Man", the track opens with a fight between The Gallagher brothers(How perfect!) and the cover is pure Rolling Stones. They even record the song with the same sound quality as the orginal(The static, vocals etc..). "All Around The World" is an Oasis single essential.
