4.0 out of 5 stars Great authentic music!, April 4, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: All the Best From the Andes (Audio CD)
This album was a great surprise. It has a variety of musical instruments and styles, all instrumentals. It has upbeat harp music with intricate, driving rythms, and also many soulful flute tunes from the high Andes. What is nice is that they are full accompaniment with the occasional voices of the artists. They seem to be quality studio recordings, but not to the point of being 'cheesy' like many recordings you find. You really feel like you are on the streets of a small village enjoying the music. Only two complaints. The rendition of El Condor Pasa is not one of the best I have heard, and the CD manufacture is dubious (They seem to have recorded the same track twice by accident, and there are no liner notes). Otherwise, this is one of the few multi-artist CD's of Peruvian music you can get that's a winner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Peru revisited, July 6, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: All the Best From the Andes (Audio CD)
Looking for an album that will capture all the music you enjoyed while traveling through the country of Peru? This one fits the bill! It vividly brought back memories of the wandering pan flute, guitar and harp bands that strolled through the streets, played in the resterants and intertained us where ever we traveled. It's music is smooth, restful, yet there are pieces that bring back memories of colorful dancers. Of course, the famous pan flute piece, 'El Condor Pasa' appears on this tape, but it doesn't overwelm the much more cultural pieces of the area. A pleasant trip down memory lane, and a great side dish to a Peruvian fete of Empanadas and Pisco sours!
