3.0 out of 5 stars Bordering on useless
This book is supposedly a reference for professional dog groomers. As one, I find it disappointing. The illustration quality is variable, and on one particular clip (the miniature schnauzer, I believe) there is a serious error in the clipping guidelines. Not enough angles of the dog pictures are shown for you to be able to discern the clipping pattern. Also, most dog...

Also, most dog groomers use modified forms of the show cuts on their customers' dogs. This book fails to describe or even mention these alternative clipping styles, which I think are not only invaluable to dog groomers but to laypersons as well who choose to groom at home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grooming Service Coordinator for a major pet company, February 7, 2000
I have used this book for many many years and rely heavily upon it for all of our groomers. The information is precise and the drawings are accurate. Kohl and Goldstein's book should be in the hands of ANY groomer wanting to advance their all-breed grooming skills. It should NEVER be 4-6 weeks out of print.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Useless Book for me, February 22, 2003

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am mainly interested in learning to groom and particularly interested in learning about clippers. This 416 page book has only 30 pages of general grooming information and it is superficial. It has less than 3 pages on clippers which was also superficial. If you already know how to groom and want information on specific breeds this book might be useful. For me it is totally useless.

1.0 out of 5 stars Groomers beware, December 11, 2005
This is an ok book for new people, but it has several safty issues, and doesn't have the show cuts for many dogs, poodles. It also has the wrong cuts from some of the dogs. There are better books out there.

3.0 out of 5 stars illustrations, March 2, 2005
this book has every breed that you'd ever come across at work. BUT... We don't like the short grooming discriptions and especially the pictures/illustrations. Don't get me wrong, Lynn Miller is a great artist. Our fellow employees have agreed that we'd much rather see a photogragh or better yet, a before and after photo of some more difficult breeds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb, well written & the most comprehensive I've ever seen, January 29, 2003

You won't believe how heavy and thick this 3rd edition book is. It's like a textbook, it has everything in it. This has to be the most definitive book ever written on the topic. I needed the most up to date grooming book out there and this is it. It has all the latest breeds one needs to know.

The author tells you not only how to groom a breed but even what equipment is required. The illustrations are precise and accurate and the photographs are very helpful. This is the industry standard and is mandatory for every groomer, here and abroad. This book has EVERY breed. Read the authors bio, he taught dog grooming at his own school here in New York for years. Who better then him to write a book?

3.0 out of 5 stars Chris Sertzel, October 19, 2009
A good basic book for beginners, but for advanced groomers, not so much. Some of the patterns are off and there is some misinformation for some breeds. Perhaps if this book were updated that would make it more applicable and marketable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well thought out new 3rd addition, January 29, 2003
By A Customer
This is the new 3rd addition by Sam Kohl. I have all his other books and this time he has outdone himself. This book has every breed out there, including all the new ones. Buy the book and have it around for a one stop reference for all questions grooming related.

I loved the details on the drawings! Giving the type of blades to use for clipping dogs was fantastic. This is a great resource to have for any groomer.

When you buy, make sure to order the comb binding - that way, the book stays open for easy reference!
