3.0 out of 5 stars It cooks wonderfully well, but it doesn't pour well.
Don't get me wrong, I like the way it is so evenly balanced, which is of extreme safety importance in a small pot, but when you try to pour a liquid, it runs down the side of the pot. This is both messy and potentially dangerous. I think that this is because there is no lip.
On the plus side, it it cooks wonderfully well, just as it should.

Ever wish for the perfect size pan for vegies, soup, sauce or gravy? Are you cooking for one or two, or need a small pan for a side dish? Ever wish you could thoroughly heat clam chowder without scorching it? Wish you could save energy by being able to cook at a lower temperature? Wishing for a pan that takes little room in the cupboard or dishwasher? One that heats from the sides as well as the bottom for even heat distribution without hot spots? A pan that is so substantial and sturdy that it may last a lifetime? If so, this may be the perfect pan for you. I am so pleased with this pan that I bought two, and a six inch lid to go with them. Some people avoid stainless because food might stick, but I have absolutely no problem with this pan. I have a small kitchen and am delighted that this pan actually fits sideways in the dishwasher between rows of posts, and because it is wider than it is tall I can stack several on one shelf. It is 3 ply, with aluminum for superior heat conduction sandwiched between layers of top quality stainless steel. Stainless doesn't react with any foods, and this pan is oven safe up to 500 degrees. I can start cooking in the pan and finish cooking or keep it warm in the oven, even use it to serve from, and store leftovers in the fridge. The double riveted handle can't fall off like a welded handle could, and there are no screws to tighten or lose. If you've ever thrown away a pan because the nonstick was scratched or peeling or the pan was warped, or thrown away food because a warped or thin pan caused it to scorch or because aluminum reacted with and discolored the food or caused it to taste metallic, then you know what a poor value in cookware can do. This pan is top of the line at a great price. Over half a century I have used many brands of cookware and none have completely pleased me until now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding value, December 29, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: All-Clad Stainless 1-Quart Saucepan (Kitchen)
This is outstanding All Clad quality, at an unbelieveable price. I have used various pieces of All Clad stainless for about 8 years now, and it looks almost as good as when it was new. The quality is as good as they say. I am happy to be able to add this 1 quart pan to my collection at such a low price. One quart is pretty small, but it does occasionally come in handy for small amuonts, and even if you use it rarely you will still get your $ worth. The pan is relatively short compared to its diameter (unlike All Clad's 2 quart pan, which seems exceptionally tall) and you can use it like a very small saute pan.

As others have mentioned, the pan does not come with a lid. If you have other All Clad cookware, this is not a problem - the pan is the same diameter as the 1 1/2 and 2 quart saucepans, and the lids from those fit this 1 quart version just fine. All Clad makes most of its pans in standard diameters, so there are only a few lid sizes that are needed -- the 1, 1 1/2, and 2 quart saucepans all use the same size lid; the 3 and 4 quart saucepans use the same lid as the 2 quart saute pan and 2 1/2 quart Windsor; the 6 and 8 quart stockpots use the same size lid as the 3 quart saute pan. So as your collection grows, you will find you dont really need a lid for each pan (unless you actually want to use all of them at once, and have enough burners on the range to do so!)

Keep an eye out for deals like this one on All Clad. They sometimes make available various small pans at a very low price to introduce people to the line. (One of my first purchases was the 1 1/2 quart pan in stainless, an extremely handy size which they apparently do not currently make in stainless; it is available only in the MasterChef2.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing bests All-Clad, June 3, 2002
By

My wife and I entertain often, and would have nothing but All-Clad. Over the years, we've tried all different makes and models of other brands, but nothing bests All-Clad. Now that we own All-Clad, we'll own nothing else (except for Emile Henry or Le Creuset). The aluminum core that extends up the sides of all the All-Clad saucepans makes for extremely even and effective heat distribution. This saucepan, which does not come with a lid, is excellent at small tasks: red wine reduction, coulis, cooked marinades, etc. The absence of the lid is understandable at the price, and actually warranted, as most sauces made in a pan this small should not be made with a lid anyway. Buy this pan (and all other All-Clad pans)- you'll never regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Inexpensive Pan that Will Bankrupt You, May 28, 2003

Nearly every housewares retailer currently offers this little saucepan from All-Clad at a wonderful price. The goal: to entice you into the All-Clad line of cookware--a goal my wallet sometimes wishes didn't succeed so well, even if my stomach happily enjoys the dollars well spent.

I have yet to find a true equal to All-Clad's cookware, and this saucepan is no exception. Crafted with layers of nonreactive stainless steel encasing a heat-friendly aluminum core that unlike so many cheaper department store imitations provides thorough and even heat all the way up the sides of the pan. Just picking up the pan and feeling its heft--deceptively heavy for its small size--will convince you of the quality workmanship that goes into every All-Clad pan.

You'll quickly find uses from melting butter to making potent sauces in this little pan, and unfortunately will soon want, desire, and covet its big brothers in the All-Clad line.

5.0 out of 5 stars All Clad Rules!, June 10, 2002
This review is from: All-Clad Stainless 1-Quart Saucepan (Kitchen)
OK, that may sound a bit juvenile, but how else do you communicate to the world when you find a product that actually gets you EXCITED about pots and pans?

The look and feel of this item (and others in a larger set I purchased separately) is heavy and high quality. This particular sauce pan is perfect for cooking dinner for one (i.e. soups) and making small quantities of sauces, etc. Amazon routinely has great pricing on All Clad items, so while it's a bit much to buy lots of it at once, you can continue to add smaller items like this to your collection over time. A wonderful value!

5.0 out of 5 stars All-Clad = All-Champion!, January 16, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: All-Clad Stainless 1-Quart Saucepan (Kitchen)
For Christmas, I received a gift certificate to Williams-Sonoma. While shopping there, I saw they had a table set-up with All-Clad cookware. I had never used the brand before (well, in all honesty, all we've had is cheapie cookware that falls apart within a year). The 1 qt sauce pan was on sale, so I thought, what the heck. We need new pots and pans, why not start little by little with this? I picked up 2 of them and am ever SO glad I did!

This pan is a great size for gravy, sauces, etc. You pick it up and can feel how durable it is (very heavy in contrast to the cheapie pots). The handle stays wonderfully cool and is solidly attached to the pot (unlike cheapies, I highly doubt the handle on this pot will ever come loose!) The ease of cooking with this (such even heat distribution!) is a joy. Clean up? Piece of cake! All I've ever needed to do is use soap, water and a cloth-covered sponge.

Overall, I HIGHLY recommend the All-Clad brand to anyone who needs new cookware. I am completely sold and cannot wait to buy our next piece! Thumbs up from this extremely, deliriously happy customer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't beat All-Clad, May 26, 2002
This review is from: All-Clad Stainless 1-Quart Saucepan (Kitchen)
Stainless Steel All-Clad is the way to go if you want cookware that you can use forever and hand down. Nothing to wear out, the handle won't burn you (unless it's in an oven, of course) and it looks great hanging in the kitchen. It screams: serious cook at work here. Every time I pick up a piece of All-Clad I am thankful I bought it. Skip the Emeril stuff and the lower-priced line of All-Clad. This is why the brand is legendary. Sales are scarce, so pounce when you see a deal. As of this writing, this pan is a killer deal.

This is an amazing pot for an equally amazing price. Solidly built and a solid performer. I don't need a lid (and if the situation comes up, I suspect aluminum foil will do the trick). Why I didn't get one earlier, I'll never know. For the record, mine says "Made in America".

I love this little pan! It feels good in your hand and is very responsive to temperature. It's just right for a delicate sauce or even for heating up a can of soup! And it is the perfect introduction to an expensive (but worth it) line of cookware. Try this and its companion 7" skillet, and you'll be back for more All Clad. I'm going to get one for each of my daughters for Christmas.
