I purchased this stock pot as a gift for my mother, who wanted a large, very heavy stock pot but didn't want to spend several hundred dollars. For the price, this is an excellent, heavy, stock pot. I own a 6 quart All-Clad stainless stock pot as well and have been very pleased with it.

All Clad appears to be trying to cut the cost on their large pots, and while I commend the idea, in practice this pot isn't that well made. The bottom of this pan has the triple thick layer but its not bonded to the sides all that well. Which is really too bad.

It's a bit difficult to see from this small photo, but you can see the lip at the bottom of the pot. It's not...

I will admit that the description is somewhat misleading -- according to the All-Clad representative I emailed and to my observations of the pot, it is not "clad" all the way up the side but has the aluminum core only on the bottom (the same goes for the 20 and 24 quart versions). This is not part of the durable, timeless All-Clad stainless line; this doesn't discount it as a quality product, though.

While this does have a "lip" where the clad bottom meets the stainless sides, it is on the outside of the pot, not the inside, so there is no danger of food getting caught or burning, as another reviewer warned. The inside is smooth from the bottom up.

Is this the exact same quality as the All-Clad stainless line? No, but at about 1/3 the price of the stainless 12 quart stock pot, it is a great alternative and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. It is an *extremely* heavy stock pot, far superior to other stock pots in this price range.

5.0 out of 5 stars All-Clad 16-Quart Stainless Stockpot, March 18, 2005

Ok, this is obviously not the same as the traditional All Clad stockpots, if it was it would be more then triple the price of this one. It is part of the disk bottom collection, however it is still top quality stainless steel and very well made. I certainly would not consider it secondary. It is a little lighter in weight than the traditional All Clad but it is not a light weight pot by any means. It is great for sauce, soup, stew, etc. You will love it and you can't beat the price. It is very easy to clean. A+
Keep an eye out, there is always some kind of rebate or gift with most cooking purchases both on Amazon and in department and cooking stores. I actually got this stock pot free when I purchased my All-Clad Roti Pan set which also came with a rack and turkey lifters in Filene's. I would have bought it anyway, it is an excellent stockpot and the price can't be beat.
Tip: If you should get something stuck to the stainless steel use a product called "Bar Keepers Friend" to clean it. Most supermarkets have it and Kitchen Etc. and Bed, Bath and Beyond carry it too. The container (like a Comet can) is gold with blue and white writing. All Clad recommends it for cleaning stainless steel and it works like a dream and is very inexpensive.

I bought one of these for my kitchen at home and, Yes...it is from China, No...it's not 3 ply but yes...it is the best stock pot for the price!!!
I have equiped many a professional kitchen and if you are looking for a STAINLESS 16 qt. stock pot with a 3 ply bottom AND a lid in a professional line get thee to a bank loan officer. A stock pot of this height for home use doesn't need to be 3 ply up the sides so this one is adequate.
Do get back to me if you find a better 16 qt. stock pot at a better price.

We slap 4 mojo*z on dis bad boy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Stockpot, October 5, 2008

Previously, we have used anodized Calphalon pans. Unfortunately, they don't do well with spaghetti sause and other acidic foods. You end up with uncoated heavy aluminum pans that foods sticks to.
Bought this based on other reviews. It really is terrific. No more burnt spaghetti sauce, no more Calphalon pans losing their anodizing because of reaction to acidy foods. Cleans up great. Any tough areas clean with a little Bartenders Friend.
I like to make large batches of spaghetti sauce, then separate it into smaller protions, freeze them in FoodSaver bags and have it ready in a pinch. My wife likes to make chicken soup in large batches. Stores the extra in glass jars in the fridge. We end up eating large amounts of chicken soup in a very short time.
If you need a pot of this size, it is a great deal. If it's your first purchase of this type of pan, you'll probably end up buying other sizes after seeing how well it performs.
I will be purchasing other All-Clad or similar pans in the future because of how thrilled I am with this pot.

I bought this stock pot for a professional chef.
He was and is very happy with the pot. The heavy bottom and lower walls allow for even heat distribution and avoids 'hot spots'.
My purchase was an excellent deal. A very good quality piece of cookware for a realistic price.
I doubt that anyone would be disappointed with this stock pot.

5.0 out of 5 stars great for large meals , guests etc, February 28, 2011

I needed a large soup pot for chicken soup for special occasions and for the sabbath and holiday meals etc.
this pot is very durable and of good quality, fine manufacturing .
It is strong and built durable, because its tall, instead of being wide, it takes up a small foot print on my stove top which is great while you try to fry a kugel too .

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Quality Stock Pot, September 23, 2009

I did quite a bit of research before buying this pot. It was a toss-up between this one and and a Farberware one, but I liked the security of riveted handles vs. welded ones for a pot this size. No, it's not a "true" All Clad, but full tri-ply construction would be a waste of money for a pot this size. The disc bottom on a pot this size is more than sufficient. Yes, it's made in China, but most SS cookware is these days.

I use this pot primarily for canning tomatoes. My old thin SS pot always burned the tomatoes on the bottom, resulting in black flakes in the tomatoes, and was a pain to clean. What a difference with this pot. No burning or scorching. Chili turned out equally well.

If you can get past the "it's not a 'real' All Clad" snobbery, this is a great pot.

We purchased this stainless steel pot to replace our old aluminum pot....we have many All-Clad pieces and decided to give this pot a try.
We LOVE it....during the fall and winter months we make many stews and soups and the quality and weight of this pot is terrific.
It is not a cheap pot but you get what you pay for with this brand. All-Clad NEVER disappoints with quality and value.....BUY IT!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not 3-Ply, but Still Overpriced, January 1, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: All-Clad Stainless 16-Quart Stockpot (Kitchen)
Yes, it's made in China. No, it's not 3-ply. No, you're not going to get food in the aluminum-sandwich ridge. I am quite happy with this STOCK POT from All-Clad. It is not as nice as my 8 qt stock pot, but if it was 3-ply construction, this pot would probably cost 4X what I paid. It is, however, the most heavy-duty stock pot on the market (in its size), and it is plenty heavy duty for making STOCK.

Other nits about it are that the sides below the top 1" are brushed and not polished, and the lid is an odd-ball size which doesn't fit anything else that All-Clad makes. On the plus side, the top edge is flared out which adds circumferential strength and makes it easy to pour. Note the construction of the 12 qt multi-pot is inferior to this one and has a top edge that is rolled over that drips and collects crud. Pass on the multi-pot...

It's a bit difficult to see from this small photo, but you can see the lip at the bottom of the pot. It's not fully bonded to the sides allowing food to get into it and because its down near the heat, burn into the pan.

If you are looking for a large pot, keep looking.
